James Baird State Park once farmland, now has an 18-hole golf course and a sports complex with softball field, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball court and playground. Several miles of scenic, wooded trails are ideal for hiking and cross-country skiing. A small summertime nature center loans recreational equipment and offers scheduled nature programs. Picnic pavilions that accommodate up to 300 people may be reserved. A full service restaurant is offered.James Baird State Park is located on land once owned by James Baird, a contractor and engineer whose firm constructed the Lincoln Memorial. Robert Trent Jones designed the course, which is fairly flat and open. The par 5, 13th hole is one of the most challenging in the Hudson Valley. The park also has a sports complex with softball field, basketball courts, tennis courts, volleyball court and playground. Several miles of scenic, wooded trails are ideal for hiking and cross-country skiing. The park has a small nature center open summer weekends that also loans recreational equipment. The nature center and nature programs are both handicapped accessible. Reservable picnic shelters accommodate up to 300 persons and complement the open and wooded picnic areas. A full service restaurant overlooks the golf course and is open to the general public and golfers alike.
Visitors to the James Baird Golf Course not only enjoy golfing on a course designed by Robert Trent Jones, but they also have an opportunity to hike, picnic, bike, play tennis, cross-country ski, and enjoy play fields and recreation programs. Picnic pavilions and playground are handicapped accessible.
The golf course at James Baird State Park offers a clubhouse, practice green, driving range, lessons, a pro shop and restaurant. A green fee for 18 holes is $19 during the week and $23 on weekends. Fees for playing 9 holes is $10 during the week and $12 on weekends. The course is open April through November, 7:00 a.m. during the week and 6:00 a.m. on weekends.
