Favorable summer breezes attract colorful windsurfing boards to Storrie Lake State Park, which is also popular for fishing and boating. The visitor center features historical exhibits about the Santa Fe Trail and 19th century Las Vegas. The park is comprised of 80 acres of land and 1,100 acres of lake surface. Altitude at the park is 6,400 feet. Park amenities include a visitor center, group picnic shelter, restrooms, showers, and a playground. Campground facilities include 37 developed sites, many with electric hookup, and an RV dump station.
History with an Attitude: With the arrival of the Santa Fe Railway in 1879, Las Vegas and the
surrounding area became a hangout of some the shadiest characters of the Wild West, including Doc Holliday, Billy the Kid and Wyatt Erp.
The lake's serene waters are open for fishing year-round. Storrie Lake boasts consistent winds that provide excellent conditions for sailing and windsurfing.
Bird watching is a must in order to view the geese and ducks that flock to the lake during seasonal migrations. Follow walking-trails through sagebrush-covered landscape spotted with cactus, yucca and wildflowers.
Annual precipitation is 15 inches. Summer temperatures range from lows around 52 to highs around 81. Winter temps range from lows of 19 degrees to highs around 47.
