Surrounded by low rolling hills dotted with juniper and pinyon, this attractive lake is not only popular with anglers but also attracts water skiers, canoeists, and wildlife enthusiasts. The panoramic views seem to go on forever.

Located near Santa Rosa, NM the park is comprised of 500 acres of land in addition to the 3,800 acre lake. Elevation at the park is 4,800 feet.

Park amenities include a group picnic shelter, restrooms, and showers. Camping facilities include 75 developed sites, some with electric hookups, and an RV dump station. There is also a primitive camping area called Los Tanos.

Eagles roost on snags at water's edge or on small islands on the lake. Also look for scaled quail, mourning dove, and migrating osprey. A Corps of Engineers visitor center has displays about area history, creation of the dam, and natural history.

Hiking trails wind through the wild areas around the lake. Nearby Santa Rosa is famous for its clean natural lakes where fledgling scuba divers from around the country come to learn scuba diving.

Other recreational opportunities include camping, picnicking, fishing, boating, water-skiing, and sailing.

Annual precipitation is 14.2 inches. Summer temperatures range from lows around 52 to highs around 89. Winter temps range from lows of 22 degrees to highs around 53.
