Wellington State Beach rests on the shore of Newfound Lake offering views of one of the state's clearest and deepest lakes. A hiking trail along the lake's shore and inland offers an opportunity for wildlife viewing and access to Goose Pond, the Sugarloafs, Bear Mountain, Welton Falls and Mt. Cardigan.Located on the shore of Newfound Lake in Bristol, Wellington State Park offers a freshwater swimming beach, hiking trails and picnic areas. Two group picnic pavilions are located in the main picnic area. A well-marked hiking trail leads from the park and provides hikers access to Goose Pond, the Sugarloafs, Bear Mountain, Welton Falls and Mt. Cardigan. A developed boat launch area provides boaters access to Newfound Lake.
Wellington State Beach is a day-use state park open from mid-May through Columbus Day. There is a bathhouse, picnic grove, hiking trail and boat launch available. Daily entrance fee is $2.50, children under 11 are free. The center of activity takes place around the 204 acre Newfound Lake.
Winter can be cold with average temperatures ranging around 19 degrees Fahrenheit. The cold temperatures humidity bring heavy, water-laden snow to all parts of the state. Spring begins in mid-March and lasts through May. This time of the year is referred to as mud season in the mountains. The sugar is flowing early in the season and wild flowers bloom toward the end of it. Summer is the busiest season of the year for the tourism industry. This is an excellent time to travel, mountain roads are open and most of the mud has dried. Average summer temperatures range around 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Fall brings the leaf lookers to see the spectacular colors of the deciduous trees. Expect to see bus loads of people enjoying the crisp fall New England weather.
