Greenfield State Park rests on 400 acres offering the visitor an opportunity to camp, swim, hike, picnic and fish along the shores of Otter Lake.Located just south of Crotched Mountain, Greenfield State Park offers an array of outdoor recreation opportunities from late spring to early fall. The park rests on Otter Lake which is popular with anglers. The well known Crotched Mountain Trail is nearby as well as a covered bridge, a wildlife management area and other bodies of fishing waters. Greenfield State Park has about 400 acres for camping, picnicking and hiking.
Visitors enjoy camping, swimming, picnicking, fishing, hiking along the shores of Otter Lake. The park also offers a bathhouse, boat launch, canoe / paddleboat rentals and picnic tables. The day-use fee is $2.50, children 11 and under are free. The park is open weekends mid-May to mid-June, 10 am - 7:30 p.m. and daily from mid-June to Labor Day. Camping opportunities run from mid-May to Columbus Day.
Winter can be cold with average temperatures ranging around 19 degrees Fahrenheit. The cold temperatures humidity bring heavy, water-laden snow to all parts of the state. Spring begins in mid-March and lasts through May. This time of the year is referred to as mud season in the mountains. The sugar is flowing early in the season and wild flowers bloom toward the end of it. Summer is the busiest season of the year for the tourism industry. This is an excellent time to travel, mountain roads are open and most of the mud has dried. Average summer temperatures range around 68 degrees Fahrenheit. Fall brings the leaf lookers to see the spectacular colors of the deciduous trees. Expect to see bus loads of people enjoying the crisp fall New England weather.
