St. Clement's Island marks the spot where some of the first English settlers landed, using the island as a base camp for further exploration. The island park is accessible only by boat, therefore, despite the busy coastline, a remote atmosphere reigns on this tiny public parcel.St. Clement's Island is a beautiful day use park for boaters. A small slip provides a pull-up location allowing visitors to hike and picnic the 40-acre Tidewater site. At present, there are no accessible facilities. Fishing at the island is almost second nature for locals and visitors alike.

Typically, coastal temperatures are slightly warmer then the western Appalachian Plateau area. Travelers should be aware that winters can become miserably cold and summers can be hazy, hot and humid with afternoon thundershowers.
