This 786 acre park on the Chesapeake Bay offers an array of recreational activities. These include swimming, fishing, crabbing, boating and windsurfing. The park's beaches and picnic areas provide unparalleled views of the William Preston Lane Bridges over the Chesapeake Bay as well as the many varieties of vessels plying the estuary.

Wildlife viewing and bird watching are favorite pastimes for many park visitors. Sandy Point's location on the Atlantic Flyway makes it an ideal location for viewing a large variety of woodland, marsh and migratory waterfowl.

A variety of recreations are available at this Chesapeake Bay park. Water oriented sports are a natural. The marina facility includes 22 launching ramps and a concession that offers bait, tackle, fuel and fishing licenses. Rowboats and motorboats are available for rent. In late spring, summer and early fall, call the Sandy Point Marina for availability and prices at 410-974-2772. Windsurfing and swimming along the beach is among the finest on the Chesapeake Bay. Certified lifeguards man the shore's edge Memorial Day through Labor Day. A number of picnic shelters offer a dining spot away from the sun's relentless rays. There are waterfront and non-waterfront shelters available for rent. There is also a youth group camping area. Details and reservations may be made by calling the park office at 410-974-2149. The park does charge a per person entrance fee of $3 on weekdays and $4 on weekends and holidays.

Sandy Point State Park offers accessible food concession area, fishing, picnic areas, shelters, bathhouses, sailing concessionaire, and playgrounds.

Maryland has four distinct seasons with spring and fall being particularly pleasant with low humidity and mild temperatures. The average January temperature ranges between 30 and 34 degrees F (-1 to 1 C) with July averages ranging between 74 degrees F and 80 degrees F. Typically, coastal temperatures are slightly warmer then the western Appalachian Plateau area. Travelers should be aware that winters can become miserably cold and summers can be hazy, hot and humid with afternoon thundershowers.
