Richardson Public Reserved Land is located between Upper Richardson Lake and Mooselookmeguntic Lake in western Maine. Visitors enjoy fishing, boating and swimming in this beautiful mountainous area. A privately operated campground is offered.The public land offers 17,757 acres in western Maine for fishing, boating, swimming and private camping. Boat launching facilities are conveniently located near the public land.
All Public Lands' campsites on Richardson Lake are managed by South Arm Campground at the foot of Lower Richardson Lake. No overnight camping is permitted except at these sites. To cover maintenance costs, a modest fee is charged. Contact South Arm at (207) 364-5155. In addition to camping, fishing, boating and swimming are offered. Hunting and trapping are allowed, subject to state rules and regulations. Call 207-287-3821 for specific policies and laws regarding these activities.
The Western Maine Mountains Region, known for its spectacular four seasons, sees average daytime winter temperatures ranging 10 - 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-12 to -10 Celsius) in the northern area and an average of 14 -18 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 to -8 Celsius) in the southern area. Summer unfolds for outdoors enthusiasts with temperatures in the northern area averaging 66 degrees Fahrenheit (19 Celsius) and in the southern area averaging 68 (20 Celsius). Western Maine Mountains Region experiences a wide range of precipitation. From north to south, the area receives an average of less than 38 inches (97 centimeters) to more than 44 inches of precipitation each year. Summer rainfall averages 3 - 5 inches per month.
