Eagle Lake is a 23,000-acre unit in northern Maine within a spruce and pine forest community. Most of the land falls along Eagle Lake with a smaller land area abutting Square Lake to the east with a thoroughfare connecting the two lakes.Eagle Lake Public Reserved Land is the northern most reserved site in Maine. It is located in the Aroostook County Region expanding 23,882 acres. The parcel abuts Square Lake to the east with a thoroughfare connecting the two lakes. Access to Eagle Lake is via the Sly Brook Road, connecting with Route 11 at Soldier Pond. Boat access is available from the town of Eagle Lake at the eastern end of Main Street at Duck Point. This entire area is a superb example of the Maine woods.
Hardy outdoor enthusiasts enjoy remote camping, fishing, hunting and more year-round. This secluded zone offers a number of maintained forest campsites including those situated across from the Duck Point boat launch in the town of Eagle Lake, along a southern edge of Eagle Lake at Three Brooks Cove, the western shore of Square Lake and areas between the two lakes. Several small boat launches are provided from the rough roads, which lead to lakeside pullouts. Fishing, canoeing and hunting are the main recreations enjoyed. Aroostook County Region is Maine's coldest region. Winter outdoor enthusiasts will find daytime temperatures in the northern area averaging below 10 degrees Fahrenheit (below -12 Celsius). In the southern area they will find winter temperatures averaging 10 - 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-12 to -10 Celsius). Summer brings cool, bright days with temperatures in the northern area averaging below 65 degrees Fahrenheit (below 18 Celsius) and in the southern area, averaging around 66 (19 Celsius). The region varies with the amount of precipitation it receives. The coastal areas tend to have greater precipitation while the inland areas receive the highest annual snowfall. Aroostook County Region expects less than 38 inches (less than 97 centimeters) of precipitation each year.
