James H. "Sloppy" Floyd State Park was named for Rep. James H. "Sloppy" Floyd who served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1953 until 1974. This 561 acre park offers many attractions. Visitors can hike along lake loop trails or boat and fish in one of the two stocked fishing lakes. A small 25 tent, trailer and RV site campground is nestled on a forested hill near four picnic shelters. Some pioneer camping is also available.James H. "Sloppy" Floyd State Park is surrounded by rural countryside and the Chattahoochee National Forest and offers outstanding fishing on two stocked lakes, boating with access to two ramps, two docks and a lake boardwalk and hiking in adjacent Chattahoochee National Forest. Children will enjoy playing in the playground and renting pedal boats Visitors will also find camping, picnicking and swimming activities.
The climate in northern Georgia is generally temperate. Short, cool winters give relief from hot summers. Most visitors enjoy this area during long, mild fall and spring seasons.
