Located on Pine Mountain, this 10,000-acre park is the largest state park in Georgia. F.D. Roosevelt State Park is deeply rooted in the historical era of four-time President Franklin D. Roosevelt. Seeking a place for treatment after he was stricken with polio in 1921, Roosevelt traveled to nearby Warm Springs and built his Little White House. Several structures within the park, including the mountain stone swimming pool, were built by Roosevelt's Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression.

Visitors will find 140 tent, trailer, and RV campsites, 21 cottages, a family/group picnic shelter, many scenic picnic areas, two lakes, and a swimming pool. Enthusiastic hikers will enjoy the 23 mile Pine Mountain Trail and picnickers can hike to Dowdell's Knob, Roosevelt's favorite picnic spot.

F.D. Roosevelt State Park offers hiking, camping. picnicking, backpacking, boating, fishing, swimming, and horseback riding to visitors. There are guided trail rides and overnight boarding for horses. Visitors will even find a Trading Post.

Georgia generally experiences mild, comfortable winters and warm to hot, humid summers. The area can offer a relatively warm escape for snow-free outdoor recreation during the winter months. Be prepared for occasional cold weather during the winter, especially at the higher elevations in northern Georgia.
