Amicalola Falls State Park comprises 1,021 acres. Amicalola, a Cherokee Indian word meaning "tumbling waters," is an appropriate name for these 729-foot falls, which are the highest in Georgia. An eight-mile approach trail leads from Amicalola Falls to Springer Mountain, the southern end of the 2,150-mile Appalachian Trail. With plenty of hiking trails, this park offers a great way to explore the area.

Camping is available with 20 tent, trailer, and RV sites or visitors might enjoy staying in one of the 14 cottages on site. A 57 room lodge complete with a restaurant and meeting facilities is available to guests who prefer hotel accommodations. For the more adventurous, a 5-mile hike leads to the privately owned 20 room Len Foote Hike Inn. Four picnic shelters, a group shelter, three playgrounds, and even a ropes course exist at the park.

For activities, Amicalola Falls State Park offers trout fishing, camping, picnicking, hiking, school and group programs, and interpretive programs.
One other feature of the park is its ropes course.

The climate in northern Georgia is generally temperate. Short, cool winters give relief from hot summers. Most visitors enjoy this area during long, mild fall and spring seasons.
