The focal point of Rifle Falls State Park is, of course, Rifle Falls. The falls lie on East Rifle Creek and have a long history as a tourist attraction. Since 1883 the falls have been drawing visitors and today it is no different. Mist from the falls have created a grotto that is popular with site seers, naturalists and photographers alike.

The park encompasses 200 acres 18 campsites and several picnic sites. The park is long and narrow following East Rifle Creek. The falls lie at the northern end of the park. In the surrounding terrain are picnic sites and hiking trails. The Coyote and Squirrel Trails lead visitors around the falls, creek and developed areas of the park. The Squirrel Trail leads to the campground at the southern end of the park. The camping area includes drive-in and walk-in sites, each with table, grill and access to vault toilets and water.

Recreation in Rifle Falls State Park includes hiking, fishing, biking, picnicking, camping and sight seeing. During the winter visitors can enjoy cross-country skiing.

The elevation of Rifle Falls is approximately 6,900 feet. It is surrounded by mountainous terrain, and receives mild weather with four distinct seasons.
