Nearly 1.5 million visitors a year can't be wrong! This bustling metropolitan playground offers unlimited recreation opportunities anchored around a 1,000 surface-acre lake. Some come to practice their aim at the park's shooting range, and others use the large, paved model airplane field. Less busy during midweek, Cherry Creek is a convenient getaway for frazzled urbanites. And this state park was the site of the prayer vigil and papal mass with Pope John Paul II during World Youth Day 1993.Cherry Creek State Park offers a natural prairie environment of gentle, rolling hills and complete outdoor recreation facilities, including full service camping, group picnic sites and facilities for special events, all in the midst of a busy urban area. Climate conditions in Colorado should be taken seriously throughout the state. Snow and ice are common on roads and trails from mid-October through late April. In the summer months, snow is still possible but less common. Varying conditions throughout a given day can be expected throughout the year.
