Lyman Lake's 6,000 foot elevation and 1,500 acre surface area (there is no restriction on boat size) make it a favorite destination for water sports, camping, fishing and hiking. Anglers are provided with a restricted no-wake area where they can fish for channel catfish, walleye, northern pike and largemouth bass. Additionally the State Park offers opportunities for visitors the chance to hike and rock-hound in the surrounding area. Shaded picnic Ramadas areas are also available. The park offers a picnic area with Ramadas, tables and grills, a 61 unit campground with showers and 38 hookup sites, a dump station, a beach, a boat ramp, a camper supply and boat rental store, trails, restrooms, and a group use area.
Recreational opportunities offered at the park include camping, hiking, rockhounding, picnicking, fishing, swimming, boating, and water skiing ( a public boat launch ramp is available ). Lyman Lake provides some of the smoothest water skiing in the state. A slalom ski course is set up each summer.
Lyman Lake State Park has a high elevation of approximately 6,000 ft, however during the summer months, expect warm temperatures with afternoon thunderstorms possible especially in July and August. Daytime high temperatures can exceed 90 degrees. Winter brings cool to cold temperatures and frequent snow. Fall and spring are transitional periods and can also be nice times to visit this region. Be prepared for cool temperatures at higher elevations and dress in layers for your travels in this state of varying climates.
