Thetford Hill State Park is located along the eastern state line of Vermont offering sweeping views of the Connecticut River Valley. This park is not a high usage park, consequently, it has become a wonderful winter habitat for white-tailed deer.Views of the Connecticut River Valley are offered from Thetford Hill State Forest. Located along the eastern border of Vermont, the seldom-visited state parcel sits on two separate tracts providing wonderful winter habitat for white-tailed deer amid a red and white pine plantation. Total acreage of the forestland is 262 acres. The lower parcel lies adjacent to Thetford State Park. Immediately north and south of this joint parcel is the Union Village Dam Project. This recreation resource encompasses nearly 1,000 acres of streamside area with picnic shelters, fishing waters, hiking and hunting grounds. Over six miles of the Dam Project provides excellent coldwater fishing opportunities along the Ompompanoosuc River. Stocked species include brown trout, rainbow trout and some natural brook trout.
Thetford Hill State Forest offers 262 acres of quiet woodland for camping, hunting, hiking, viewing river scenes and enjoying sights of small game. Bicycling is enjoyed along SR 113 offering access to the parklands and the Union Village Dam Project.
Winter daytime temperatures average between 16 and 18 degrees Fahrenheit (between -9 and -8 Celsius). Summer daytime temperatures average between 68 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20 and 21 Celsius). Much of the state's precipitation is the result of snow, particularly throughout the mountains. The Heart of Vermont Travel Region has diverse precipitation totals ranging from 40 to 44 inches (102 and 112 centimeters) in the center area of the region decreasing to less than 36 inches (91 centimeters) along the state lines of New York and New Hampshire.
