Proctor Piper State Forest offers over 1,500 of undeveloped land for hiking, hunting and picnicking. Hawk Mountain Wildlife Management area is located just east of the State Forest offering an opportunity to view black bear, white-tailed deer, partridge and woodcock.

Over 1,500 acres of State Forest land are located in the Cavendish area. The Forest is mostly undeveloped offering only hiking, picnicking and seasonal hunting. Located in the southern midsection of Vermont, covered bridges, fishing ponds, historic sites and more are just a few miles within each other including the Hawk Mountain Wildlife Management Area which offers an opportunity to view black bear and white-tailed deer.

Proctor Piper State Forest is an undeveloped tract of 1,500 acres available for hiking, hunting and picnicking.

Winter daytime temperatures average between 16 and 18 degrees Fahrenheit (between -9 and -8 Celsius). Summer daytime temperatures average between 68 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20 and 21 Celsius). Much of the state's precipitation is the result of snow, particularly throughout the mountains. The Heart of Vermont Travel Region has diverse precipitation totals ranging from 40 to 44 inches (102 and 112 centimeters) in the center area of the region decreasing to less than 36 inches (91 centimeters) along the state lines of New York and New Hampshire.
