Mt. Carmel State Forest offers 264 acres several miles east of the town of Brandon. Fishing opportunities abound in the area including Chittenden Reservoir and numerous brooks. Mt. Carmel stands at 3,365 feet only to be shadowed by Bloodroot Mountain to the north which stands at 3,485 feet. This State Forest offers hiking and hunting opportunities.Located in the Heart of Vermont in the Middlebury Ranger District of the Green Mountain National Forest is the beautiful Mt. Carmel State Forest. Many surrounding creeks and the nearby Chittenden Reservoir offer fishing and boating opportunities. The Long Trail may be accessed from this parcel.

Winter daytime temperatures average between 16 and 18 degrees Fahrenheit (between -9 and -8 Celsius). Summer daytime temperatures average between 68 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit (20 and 21 Celsius). Much of the state's precipitation is the result of snow, particularly throughout the mountains. The Heart of Vermont Travel Region has diverse precipitation totals ranging from 40 to 44 inches (102 and 112 centimeters) in the center area of the region decreasing to less than 36 inches (91 centimeters) along the state lines of New York and New Hampshire.
