Even if men are from Mars and women are from Venus, they can at least agree on the most romantic spot on Earth. The islands of Hawaii topped Yahoo! Travel's list of the world's most-romantic destinations for the third time in a row. Nearly a quarter of the survey's 2,600 respondents picked Hawaii as #1 for romance. Paris and the Caribbean trailed significantly behind, with 12% and 11% of the vote respectively.
Men accounted for 51% of the survey respondents, and the results were fairly similar for both genders. When asked what features make a destination romantic, men and women both overwhelmingly chose scenery. And both genders agreed on the importance of a beautiful setting, though opinions were somewhat divided on the most-romantic activities for the ideal getaway. Women favored pampering activities like spa treatments and outdoor activities, such as stargazing or nature walks. Men, meanwhile, preferred destinations with good nightlife.
Front-runner Hawaii certainly has enough options to satisfy both sexes: The scenic Road to Hana in Maui is famously breathtaking, and many consider Hawaii's beaches to be the best in the world. Oahu's Halekulani hotel offers a 4-hour Heavenly Journey spa treatment that provides a head-to-toe pampering package. As for nightlife, the relatively new thirtynine hotel brings a jolt of cosmopolitan cool to the formerly sleepy club scene of the islands.
