Hotel Santa Maria is truly gorgeous. After touring the loud craziness of Rome, to be able to come through the gates in Trastevere to the Hotel was a relaxing sigh so we could recoup our energy for the evening. It was so peaceful to sit in the courtyard, have the happy hours snacks :-) and wine/beer and add entries in our travel log. And, after touring Rome, to be able that evening to just walk out those gates into the funkiest and happening neighborhood and STROLL to our pick of (OH!) delicious restaurants without having to again "find our way" where to dine was wonderful. A guitarist was singing in the streets, with patrons singing along. OUr pasta at Piatti Ricco restaurant was out of this world. I was proud of myself for finding Hotel Santa Maria on the internet! The staff was so friendly and helpful, and the accomodations were beautifully decorated, with delicate borders painted on the walls, really matching the curtains. Very classy, very funky, what a cool place!
The grafitti is a bit startling at first, but after seeing it all day in Rome, we knew that as much of a shame as it is (WHO IS DOING THIS??), it didnt mean the neighborhood was bad.
