Sad, lies.
By ,
I don't know who is writing these positive reviews. The staff? The place is terrible: -Loud (I can hear the neighbors all night long) -Filthy (I wouldn't let a dog sleep on the bedspread / linens -- nasty!) -Cold (Yes, it got cold here in February and the heat is inadequate) -Height (If you are over 5'5, you won't be able to stand up in the shower, or the 2nd floor where the bed is) -Rude (Staff is inhospitable, at best; rude, on average) This place is a dump and not worth the money they are charging. Do your family a favor and stay anywhere else.

A delightful oasis
By ,
Once we found it, which is a challenge as no taxi driver other than those in Trastevere can get to it even if they know where it is meant to be, we were delighted. The setting in an old convent is delightful and insulates one from the rest of the bustle outside. The rooms are spacious, well furnished and equipped and quiet. The breakfast is excellent and in the evening there is a charming bar with appetisers. Staff are uniformly helpful and delightful . Nearby restaurants are plentiful and some of them excellent value. Highly recommended.

Lovely stay at Hotel Santa Maria
By ,
My wife and I booked four days at Hotel Santa Maria in October on the glowing recommendation of a friend. Sometimes such recommendations can be disappointing, but this one was right on. The hotel is impeccably clean with charming rooms, surrounding a lovely walled garden where we sat and played scrabble after sightseeing. We were welcomed warmly by the Concierge (in English) who was knowledgeable and helpful throughout our stay. Breakfast each day was very pleasant and much more than the usual continental. The Trastavere neighborhood has a great deal more character than central Rome and we loved walking through the maze of tiny streets. We recommend the hotel highly.

A haven in the centre of Rome
By ,
Fabuolous, cosy, friendly hotel! Loved the garden, the feeling of peace and quiet. Like entering a secluded world. And still with all of the sights of Rome within walking distance and restaurants and bars just around the corner, Would love to return!

Relaxing Retreat in Rome
By ,
The Hotel Santa Maria was a very comfortable hotel. Our room was quite large and accomodated our family of four plus a baby easily. Everything was clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the opportunity to sit in the courtyard. We also enjoyed the breakfast and the service of the wait staff. The hotel was a very convenient location and we walked to all sites in Rome with our children. It was also the only hotel we stayed in in Italy that had soft pillows!

An Oasis
By ,
This hotel was recommended to us by a trusted friend, and she did not steer us wrong! The hotel is in a great location - you'd never believe it could be so quiet and calm amidst the lively square. Exceptionally clean and comfortable, and a great place to go back to after a long day of sightseeing. Our room was a touch small, but had all the modern amenties we needed. And the breakfast (served in the courtyard) was great, too!

Beautiful, Numerous CLOSE restaurants, perfect!
By ,
Hotel Santa Maria is truly gorgeous. After touring the loud craziness of Rome, to be able to come through the gates in Trastevere to the Hotel was a relaxing sigh so we could recoup our energy for the evening. It was so peaceful to sit in the courtyard, have the happy hours snacks :-) and wine/beer and add entries in our travel log. And, after touring Rome, to be able that evening to just walk out those gates into the funkiest and happening neighborhood and STROLL to our pick of (OH!) delicious restaurants without having to again "find our way" where to dine was wonderful. A guitarist was singing in the streets, with patrons singing along. OUr pasta at Piatti Ricco restaurant was out of this world. I was proud of myself for finding Hotel Santa Maria on the internet! The staff was so friendly and helpful, and the accomodations were beautifully decorated, with delicate borders painted on the walls, really matching the curtains. Very classy, very funky, what a cool place! The grafitti is a bit startling at first, but after seeing it all day in Rome, we knew that as much of a shame as it is (WHO IS DOING THIS??), it didnt mean the neighborhood was bad.

Will definitely be back
By ,
We have visited this hotel twice now and will return because of the haven of peace in a busy part of Rome, but also quick access to key tourist spots. The key bonus is fantastic service from helpful and friendly staff, particularly those in the lovely breakfast room who can't do enough for you. And eating breakfast among the orange trees is a joy. Trastevere is a great location for eating out.
