Never Again

We checked into the hotel in July 2005. The clerk at the check in did not acknowledge us promptly. When we were directed to our room it was of extremely poor quality. The refridgerator in the room did not work. It had faulty power cords to the lighting in the room, wires were exposed. The room appeared to be an office prior to them making it a guest room. There are a few reasons why I say it appeared to have been a converted office. One is because there were a few buzzers on the wall of the room that you could push to unlock the door so someone could come in. Also the entry door to the room had a large glass pane in the middle with blinds instead of being solid wood. The blinds didn't even cover the entire window pane so anyone walking by could have looked underneath into our room. Also there was desk in the room with old telephones in the drawers of the desk. The television remote control did not work and had tape on the back of it holding the batteries in. The television only had 1 working channel anyway. The bed was made out of 2 by 4 wood planks screwed together and it had some kind of thin uncomfortable mattress on it identical to a wrestling mat. The pillows were also flat and uncomfortable. There were metal grids on the windows so you couldn't look out. There was noise from the restaurant/bar next door that was not blocked out by the windows or any other material. When we confronted the manager regarding the condition of the room he was of no assistance. We advised him that we stayed at this same hotel in May of 2005 and our room was nothing like this one. We had reservations but we were advised that even with reservations the rooms were distributed on a first come first serve basis and this was the only room they had left. Needless to say due to staff's attitude towards their less than adequate rooms we will not stay at this hotel again, regardless of it's proximity to the art deco district in south beach miami. They did not even try to find us adequate lodgings at a sister hotel through their booking agent. We had to call ourselves and our booking agent was very helpful and found us an excellent hotel about 8 blocks away. We had to pay more out of pocket (about $50 total in addition to our original booking price) however it was well worth it.
