Good Value. Great pool but Mediocre buffet.
We have been to Vegas over 14 times in 10 years, so we have stayed at a number of hotel-casinos. The worst were Ballys and Flamingo because the decor was tired-looking both in the hotel and in the rooms. Monte Carlo is a good value, and really hasn't changed much in the last 7 years. Great pool area with a cute lazy river and small wave pool, hot tub. Even a sandy beach for volleyball. Not as crowded as the Mandalay Bay pool area, and that's a good thing. Hotel: Friendly staff, good service, some small comps. The buffet is mixed. Dinner was especially disappointing. Breakfast was just o.k. There are better buffets in Vegas, and I suppose worse ones too. We would not recommend their buffet for dinner. A limited selection, dried-out food, tough "prime" rib. Not enough seafood during the week. They tell me the weekend seafood buffet is better-I hope so. Both Bellagio and Cosmo have far better buffets. The rooms are very nice, but the bathroom is very small compared to newer hotels. Very loud plumbing. Hard to take a bath in a miniature bathtub, and we are not big people.
The casino is pretty good. A nice crowd, surprisingly more people on the floor than some other casinos at night. "Doesn't scream excitement, but doesn't discourage it either."-Las Vegas Guidebook. We would stay here again but not eat the dinner buffet here. Bonus: A really nice and extensive food court with all the usual: McD, Shabaro, Starbucks, and more. The Pub is fun. The Mexican Restaurant at the front entrance is very good also, but pricey. Very close to NY NY, City Center and Bellagio via the free connecting tram. Easy walk to NY NY makes it easy to connect to Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay. Near MGM, Cosmo and PH. Clientele mostly middle class, English(!) and families. If you want a more exciting casino, try PH. However, far more fun that both Ballys or Flamingo which seem to attract an "old" and New York-New Jersey clientele.
