Dream vacation!!!
By ,
We stayed at the oasis cancun 2 weeks ago, and I just LOVED the week I spent there!!!!! I'm 30 so I was in the older crowd 'cuz everyone was in there early 20's, but I still had alot of fun!! I had read a couple of bad reviews of this hotel, but didn't have any proplems happens to me during that week... the ac was functionning perfectly, it was even too cold sometimes when we went in our room! The hotel was very clean, We had a couple of bad thunder showers so there were a couple of buckets in the hallway but nothing to cause any problems. Our room was always very clean (we did tip the cleaning lady everyday) and got 2 free bottles of tequila :) The food at the buffet (the Tatish) was EXCELLENT and the service was amazing, we almost always had the same waiter, and if you leave a little tip everyday, you'll be serve like a king!!!! I gained 4 pounds that week I ate so much!! :D We tried the italian restaurant and it was very good, the american one wasn't that much... The drinks were very good and NOT watered down!!! You have to try these 2 drinks I discovered there: the superman and the Bob Marley. They were sooooo good!!!! The pool is awesome, it's so big and I loved the 2 swim-up bars! The music was always very good near the pool. And the beach!!!! Wow!!! I loved all the beds on the beach, it was soooo relaxing!! We always had free chairs or palapas or bed on the beach, it was quiet because it was in october. There are hammocks on the site near the beach. All the staff were nice with us, we didn't have problems with no one. I guess it depends on your attitude, if you are nice with people, it will come back to you, but maybe we were just lucky too, since we didn't have problems with the ac like alot of people seemed to have, or anything else. We did a couple of excursions there: Chichen Itza, Tulum, Xel-Hal, X-Plor and my boyfriend went to Exotic Cars to drive his dream car there, it's a big race track!!! All of our excursion were amazing!! I strongly suggest X-Plor, I had soooooo much fun there!!!!! And to visit the Mayan pyramides and Temples was VERY special too!! It was a dream vacation for us and would DEFINITELY go back!!!

Shockingly Bad Resort
By ,
THE CONCEPT: This is a very large property. The website doesn't describe how it's run as multiple separate resorts (Grand Oasis / Oasis Cancun / Oasis Palm Beach) with some shared services and multiple classes of guests entitled to use only a portion of the overall services. To upgrade your class (your bracelet color) they'll shake you down for an extra $20 per person per night. The staff to guest ratio is kept to a minimum through this use of shared services. Bars/restaurants are opened only when all others are at extreme over-capacity. FOOD/DRINK: You'll work very hard to take advantage of the "all-inclusive" benefits. The entire service plan is designed to save money by making it difficult for guests to find food/drink and to discourage them further by inserting artificially long wait times before serving any menu order. By day two I was already making shopping runs off resort to bring back food and drink for our rooms. The bad service becomes dangerous due to the difficulty in obtaining water. On random days each room receives a maximum of 1 liter of bottled water (not nearly enough for two people in the Mexican sun). For an extra cup of water you'll need to deal with the bar/restaurant issues described below. FOOD. What the website doesn't tell you about their 7 restaurants is that most of them are closed at any given time, some of them are closed all the time, and at some times all of them are closed. Also, depending on your bracelet color you can not be served at many of them. For most of my 10-day stay the closest food was a 1/2 mile walk across the entire resort. Restaurants are open for only 2 or 3 hours before closing down so you'll spend much time wandering the resort trying to figure out where to find food or drink at any given time. If you sleep past 10:30 AM you've missed your chance at breakfast and will have to wait until 12 noon lunch. They do sometimes have a snack bar open between meals that has a very limited menu of low-quality foods (fries and nasty burgers). Even at the snack bar you'll have to wait 30-45 minutes for your snack that really doesn't require more than 3-4 minutes to cook in their deep fryer. For a sit-down dinner you'll find yourself playing the reservation game. The one guy who takes reservations has limited hours, is often not there even when he is supposed to be, and the undersized restaurants are already fully booked if you don't catch the reservation guy early each morning to make your reservation. DRINKS. Same issues as the food. The bar closest to my room was beach view and could have been very convenient--but it never opened during my 10-day stay. The next closest bar required the $20 per day VIP upgrade charge. The next closest bar was a pool bar that would not serve you unless you were in the pool. About a 1/4 mile away was the main bar that was open most daytime hours but was chaos with 1 or 2 bartenders trying to serve mobs of guests with empty cups. If you want to get your drink on for a day you'll need to hang out near this main bar and deal with the obnoxiously loud club music that will make your ears ring. ROOMS: The rooms look like they were originally built well but then run down due to lack of maintenance. My bathtub didn't drain and it smelled like sewage, the toilet didn't function properly, the air conditioner functioned only well enough to make the temperature tolerable but the fan made an awful noise. There is no sound-proofing between the rooms and halls so at all hours of the night you'll eavesdrop on drunk guys in the hall trying to talk their way into some girl's room. Rooms have a mini-fridges but they don't seem to cool anything more than a few degrees below room temperature. Buckets are used to catch leaks from ceilings in the rooms and common areas. You can always feel better about your room by going to a bar area and listening to the horror stories of other guests who have it worse.

BAD BAD BAD HOTEL
By ,
My group and I recenty returned from our vacation in Cancun, Mexico. Although we had a great vacation and enjoyed the city, the Oaisis Cancun was horrible, it was rated a 4 star, but far from a 4 star hotel. We were mislead to believe that this was a family oriented hotel (according to sunwing vacation), when we arrive the first thing we came across was a bunch of drunk and roudy college/university kids drinking in the lobby area. It was impossible to get any sleep in the night because of all the noise taking place in the hallways, security didn't speak english so it was impossible to make a complaint. I don't have anything against people enjoying there vacation but I would like my sleep at the same time. The whole bracelet process was so dumb and took a lot of time to get through...nothing was organized at all and was very frustrating, especially after travelling and all you want to do is shower and relax. There were not enough children activites at the resort, other then the beach which kept the kids busy they were bored....this was suppose to be a family resort according to sunwing, but yet not family activities....sucked. The house keeping was ridiculous....not clean at all. I was so dissapointed. The sheets smelled (i don't think they were ever changed), and there were days when I didn't get fresh towels and when I asked house keeping they didn't have any available. One day I was there I had to call front desk to bring towels, but they took a very long time to bring them, I couldn't wait anymore and had to use my beach towel, my family and I all showered left for lunch and still no towels, we got our towels when we returned to our room. Non of the house keeping staff spoke english which was very frustrating when I needed to get something from them, I found myself constantly repeating myself. Staff was not helpful at all and it was very disappointing. House keeping was not consistent, they came at different times throughout the day, and usually when you were trying to get ready for dinner. They did not clean my room very clean. If you come to this resort, be sure to bring a lot of cash...because the only way you will get a clean room is if you tip the house keeping. The food and drinks were not to par. Drinks were watered down and lines were very long. The food was gross, no flavour or taste, the meat was either over cooked or not cooked enough. I felt like the only time you got good service was when you gave the waiter/bartender/house keeping a good tip. It seems like all staff at the resort only wanted tips. I would never ever recommend this resort to anyone, and I will never go there again. My rating for this resort is a ZERO, not even worth a 1. I had a very bad experience. It was a waste of my money. My suggestion to anyone considering thie resort...DON'T consider it at all, pay the money to go to a 5 star resort. I will be complaining to the travel agecny about this resort.

Oasis Cancun- they changed the name
By ,
Been to Cancun about a dozen times… This Hotel was the absolute worst! The All Inclusive is a JOKE… The service was horrible. The Bars are ridiculous, they close bars at random times, the pool Bartender wouldn’t serve me because I was not in the pool? I was standing right next to the bar, he said “this is a pool bar, I need to help pool customers first.” Funny thing though, there was no one waiting for a drink….The Outside Bar had a line like Great Adventure… One guy making drinks….I guess no waitress service…Not once did anyone come up to me and ask me if I wanted a drink. The food at the outside Bar… Well done Hamburgers and Fries… this too was like waiting for an amusement park ride.. One guy just way over cooking everything…. My kids did not like Burnt Hard Burgers. I asked the guy twice to take my burger off the grill earlier, but no can do… He was cooking 20-30 at a time. The Oasis, and Grand Oasis are on the same grounds, but if you pay for the Grand Oasis, you get a Black Bracelet, if you stay at the plain old Oasis, well then you’re a second class citizen, which we found out on the first day. Special Beach, Bars, Restaurants, and ammeneties for BLACK Bracelet wearers only… The rooms are so run down, and smell like mildew. They should take a bulldozer to this place and start over. You want a great hotel… Stay at the Cancun Palace, been there twice and planning on returning soon.

Out $600
By ,
My friend and I stayed here to enjoy Spring break. We were disappointed on many levels. First, you are not allowed to bring non-hotel guests back with you (i.e. if you meet a girl at a club and want to take her back to your room, forget about it). Second, although it was all-inclusive, the food and drinks really sucked. I ended up only eating rice and tomatoes and eating out the rest of the time. Drinks were watered down and impossible to get unless you gave a $1 tip to one of the few waiters. Third, the bathroom was terrible. It smelled bad and didn't have any tissues. We had to go to the front desk to get extra towels. Last, but definitely not least, the cleaning lady broke our door. My friend and I were hanging out on the balcony when she opened the balcony door, creating a strong draft, which caused the entrance door to shut with enough force to break it. We told the hotel about the door and were promised that it would be fixed. The door was never fixed and when it was time to check out we were slammed with a $600 charge for the door! They refused to apply the insurance that we bought in the beginning of our stay! They refused my request to see the terms and conditions of the insurance. When I refused to pay, they threatened to call the Mexican police. I had no choice but to let them swipe my American Express card. After 3 months of exchanging documents back and forth with American Express, my request for a charge back was denied. American Express claims that they have no ability to charge the merchant back because my card was swiped in my presence. I am kicking myself right now for being honest with American Express and not reporting my card stolen.

Phenomenal Party Horrible Hotel
By ,
This is the craziest party in the world. Absolutely ridiculous at all times of the day. If you want a college spring break, this is unquestionably it. The beach was a huge party and so were the pools. People were friendly and wanting to party literally 24 hours a day. Phenomenal. That being said, we had made a reservation through the hotel website and were told that we were going to be moved to a different hotel location. We were never informed that the switch was a possibility, let alone that it had occurred. The manager refused to pay for our cab fare to the new hotel and ended up slamming the door in our face. Check in and check out lines are hours and the staff at the front desk is completely incompetent. There is no reason you should have to re-write your name every time you make a transaction. By the end of the trip, our names were "Paula Mandalhyam and Smith Mandalhyam" neither of which is close to our name (we have different last names and neither of us are Paula). If you're checking out and have to make a flight, leave AT LEAST an hour to check out. The food is mediocre. Very mediocre. They re-fill the water bottles with tap water so DO NOT DRINK THEIR WATER. Buy water from the stores across the street. It was almost impossible to get one of the watered-down drinks at the bar. It was frustrating and a waste of time. Essentially, this is a crazy spring break hotel and the experience is not replicated anywhere else. Because there is no substitute, they can treat you like complete crap and get away with it.

Treatment Plant Smells
By ,
We booked Oasis Cancun for November 26 through December 10, 2009. This hotel has so many problems we had to move out. We were willing to upgrade just to get out of the hotel. Problems at Oasis Cancun include: Their treatment plant gives off a foul stench, which is only noticeable in the immediate vicinity of the entire complex. My wife has asthma and was on her rescue medication the 4 nights we were there. As soon as we transfered out, she had no need to use her rescue medications. The food and wait staff was terrible on several nights. (they were excellent on our first day) The last straw was when the bath water turned brown. In our opinion, the manager clearly has no clue on how to manage the Oasis Cancun resort. The hotel was booked with 1800+ rooms which may have caused the problems. If you need more details, let us know.

Never staying there again!
By ,
Rooms- Neither of our rooms had towels the first day we arrived and the toilet in one room was broken. We spent 3 hours in the lobby waiting in lines and talking to various workers trying to get this problem fixed. One room was missing furniture and both of our rooms were missing paintings on the walls-the nails were left in for some reason. Hotel-Needs painted. The two elevators in our hotel were constantly breaking down. They are extremely small and do not have air conditioning, so it is a cramped and humid ride. The wait for an elevator is rediculous, so most of the time we chose to climb the stairs. Everything is extremely spread out and the workers are not helpful in giving directions. Pool- This was the best part of the whole place. You could chose a spot that is really loud and party atmosphere or you could opt for a more calm and relaxing area. Food- If you look hard enough you can find something you will eat. The only problem is be prepared to wait...and wait...and waiiiit. The lines are long and if you don't get in line right when the places open, you will have to wait at least 45 minutes. THEN once you actually get into the restaurants, the servers are terrible. Once a dish of food is empty, it takes about 10 to 15 minutes to get more! Beach- The beach is like most people said- rocky but you can find areas that are nice. OVERALL I would not come back here again. If you can afford to spend more money for a quality vacation, I would strongly suggest it.

\"You get what you paid for\"
By ,
OK this is a party place. If your going there to party it is a good place. If your a family looking to vacation in Cancun, I recommend staying somewhere else. That having been said, I had a good time. I went with a party of 10, most were married, 2 singles. You can follow the pool around to get away from the partiers, they are loud and obnoxious, most were drunk, yelling and screaming, cant handle they're booze. The rooms were not great, however it fit the need. The bed was the best thing in the room, very comfortable. The T.V. had enough english speaking channels to get by. The bathrooms were the worst thing in the rooms. VERY outdated, old but everything worked. Had an odor coming from the toilet but you get used to it. The shower worked, sinks worked, we had all the hotwater we needed, it was clean. The maids cleaned the room everyday and gave us new towels. We had to change our room once because of the noise. We were right next to the elevater and you could hear it dinging on every floor, very annoying and loud. Then you have your typical jerks who come in at all hours of the night yelling and screaming in the halls so you never really get a good nights rest. I can assure you that you will be awakenned several times every night, These are the same rude drunk people down by the pool I would imagine. Thank God we were not there during spring break. That is probably the worst of it all. The overall experience was good. Food was execillent, nothing was bad in any restaraunt. Make sure you arrive about a half hour or 45 minutes before the restaraunt opens, otherwise you'll wait a long time to get in. Waiters were very kind and worked hard. The atmosphere in every restaraunt was nice. There were 2 places were you could get a snack in between meals, one place had hamburgers and hotdogs, the other had soft tacos and what appeared to be chimichongas. These were all good and typical. The booze is watered down but i think that is for a purpose, one to save money and two, people dont get drunk as fast. It is good to leave a tip at these places and restaraunts, even your room for the maid. They worked hard. The premises were very nice, well manicured. Pool was acceptable considerring the people who are in it. Some stay by the swim up bars and are there ALL day and drink all day and never seem to have to get out of the pool???? Hummm. Anyway I think you get the picture. But just follow the pool to the other side and that is not the case, this side seemed to cater to the older and family oriented people, the ones who want to relax and enjoy the pool. We just set up some lounges by the end and enjoyed the ocean and the pool. By the way, you need to get there very early and save the lounges and chairs or they will all be taken by 9:00 am. If you take an excursion to do something, sight seeing, or diving or whatever activity you want to do, make sure you make the arrangements with your representative. He will save you money and hassels. Also, if you rent a taxi or a driver to take you somewhere make sure you agree on the price before you do it and make sure they dont try to take advantage of you. We had a driver try to get $30.00 more than the agreed price, we just politely reminded him of the original price and he "rememberred." Other than that it was fun and we enjoyed it as a group. I would probably try to find another resort if I came back only because of the partiers and the rooms, but if I had to stay there again I probably would. If you go there with an attitude you will STILL have an attitude when you leave. It is what you make it. Dont be the ugly American and you'll be treated with dignity and respect.

Never go back to this DUMP
By ,
Check-in, what a joke, if there is 1 or 30 people coming in at one time there is still only ONE person behind the counter. You will see 2 or 3 back there doing nothing they will not help you. We were put into Phase one, the room was dirty, moldy with two full beds. This is not going to work. We went back complained and were put into Phase two second floor same size room with tow full beds pushed together but the room was cleaner. Room service was the worst, if the maid runs out of bath towels, hand towels or wash rags you dont get any unless you call the front desk and ask. But they dont tell house keeping what you need they send them to your room and they come with an cloths iron and a hair dryer. Now you have to try and tell them what you need because they dont speek anything but spaniish. Food was the worst I have ever had, it was so bad that we went out to eat at other locations. Bring small bills (money) with you, it is very hard to change large money into small without receiving passos back. All they know is the dollar. I even tried to go to a local bank and they wouldnt change our money. There is a hole lot more to say about Oasis Cancun and none of it will be good, This place is a dump.
