Historic Plains Hotel, Cheyenne

It is really something to see. It is just like an old hotel from the Wild Wild West. A must see! Really awesome nice people all over that town. :) Safe & inexpensive too.

We enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were updated but kept some historic charm. Within pretty easy walking distance of restaurants and the capital building.

From out of state. I booked online afterI searched and compared based on pictures and description. The room looked nothing compared to the online photos!!! But with great location I didn't let it get to me.... Then I pulled out ironing board and when I opened it, it broke apart. Oh well, things happen..... Used the bathroom and as I was about to dry my hands, the towel had make-up and hairs.....THAT DID IT FOR ME! I immediately asked for refund and checked out! NEVER AGAIN! U can tell they don't put any effort in maintaining that hotel. Very sad for such a great location :(

We got stuck in Cheyenne due to weather and all the road side properties were sold out, so they told us about the plains hotel, holy smokes what a great hidden hotel. You would think it's an office building down town until you hit the front door and the staff starts talking about the hotel, my girl friend and I thought this place is going to be $300 a night we got a room for $99 and the employees went out of their way to ensure we were warm, they knocked on our door and when I opened it they asked if the room was ok and warm, the outside temperature was -43 degrees. We went to the Grille and met the chef terry and jim the manager they were all over it and we really splurged as we were living like kings we wanted to act like kings and queens, the staff in the grille went above and beyond it was really nice So if you want to know of a great place in Cheyenne stay at the Plains Hotel it's not too expensive and the historic hotel is so cool money can't buy the experience

I loved the atmosphere at this hotel. They have renovated this grand old lady but managed to hold on to the feeling of the old west. The soul of a hotel is it's history; the heart is it's people. Somehow the heart and the soul of The Plains has intertwined. It's an amazing thing to see. The food in the restaurant is amazing. Just TRY to finish one of their Chicken Pot Pies...go on, try. Rooms have always been great. I have stayed at the Plains on business many times and for extended periods of time. I have always felt as though I was coming home I highly recommend it...and don't leave without a latte! The Plains is also DOG FRIENDLY!!!!!!! For me, that's HUGE!

We enjoyed the downtown location and the friendly staff. The Restaurant on site was very good for a nice dinner treat. Rooms are small and the hotel is very old, but that said, it had character. That is a nice change from the blah chains. Would very much enjoy staying there again.

We stayed 2 nights. Very clean and just what i expected for a historic hotel. Parking could have been better, but a little stroll down downtown never hurts anyone.

We reserved a non-smoking king size bed room. We got a smoking room with a queen sized bed. The room had a stale stench to it, when I attempted to open the window, which had a plastic covering over it so you could not see outside, the screen was torn apart. The reason the plastic was over the wide was to hide the huge electrical equipment adjacent to the room. Last, but certainly not least, the interior shower curtain was covered in black mold, totally disgusting, yuck! When I brought this to front desks attention, they said sorry. Did not try to right the wrong situation.

This hotel is adorable! I walked in and was greeted by a friendly staff that was the personification of "the west!" The big open lobby has this tile floor and I could have sworn I could still hear ragtime piano music bouncing off of it. The room was comfortable, just right for me and my friends but the atmosphere was right on. We were looking for a place to really feel that western vibe - and this is it! I will definitely be going back.

The Plains is a "historic" hotel. That comes with both good and bad. The good was clearly the location and proximity to other historic structures and points of interest. In addition, some modern conveniences were available (spa, coffee bar, etc.) that were well managed. The bad was occasional unavailability of hot water and cleanliness (shower curtain had mold on it and old ventilation system). If you like restored historic downtown communities I would suggest a stay. If you prefer the mall environment (and yes, Cheyenne has a mall) I would suggest perhaps some of the newer low-mid range hospitality chains (Best Western, etc.). There are occasional community events hosted at the Plains (wine tasting, holiday parties, etc.) which are very nice. The hotel has no pool/whirlpool type modern conveniences and the workout facility consists of a TV, treadmill (1), bike (1) and eliptical (1), all functioning properly.
