Affordable luxury - fantastic service
By ,
Location - As others have mentioned, this hotel is right on the doorstep of Ginza, the "cool and western" shopping district. Also has a subway link under the hotel to the Shinbashi station, which is only a stop or so away from Tokyo station. JR and subway from Shinbashi. Service - The concierge was fantastic. Nothing was too much trouble. We wanted to get to Tokyo Disneyland but the phone number we had was out of date - they made calls for us and wrote down in Japanese characters the names of the stations to take so that the subway ticket office staff knew exactly where we wanted to go. Most staff understood English, and several were fluent. Room - Huge bed, great pillows (the soft ones morph to your noggin!) and an update has seen the decor upgraded. Large LCD TV's in every room...robes...slippers...all that stuff...deep bath, and of course, the bidet toilet! Overall, we had our two boys with us (4 and 2yrs) and we were very happy with the hotel. Do yourself a favour and book ahead to find a good deal, but still, for the high standard hotel, we couldn't have asked for a better place in Tokyo.

Basic hotel
By ,
Good location near to Tokyo station. Japanese style. Rooms are fairly small, which is typical, but reasonably appointed. Very hard bed and smelled of cigarette smoke which didn't make it the best place to relax. They have free broadband, but for some reason they come to your room to install a modem if you want it (quite inconvenient and incomprehensible) - the guy who came even plugged it in across the room and asked me whether it was ok to leave the power cable laying across the floor.

It is a very nice hotel
By ,
The location of the hotel is great, walking distance to Ginza shopping area, many restaurants nearby, basement access to Metro station..... Hotel is clean and nice, spacious compared to Japan standard. Especially the bathroom. The staff is very nice and polite, especially the conceige, she planned the whole hotspring trip for us, to every single detail including the directions how to transfer trains and how to get on a bus in....seh made the reservation and even bought the train tickets for us, and the whoel service is only 500JPY. There was one thing I still didn't understand though. Before we arrived, I called the hotel and confirmed for a non-smoking room. When we arrived, they told us only smoking rooms available. They showed us a few rooms to choose from, but each of them smelled strong smoke. After I insisted for a nonsmoking room, they did "find" me one. Overall....I love this hotel and we enjoyed our stay there. I would recommend to friends.

A good place to stay
By ,
This 5* hotel in Shinbashi is in a great location. The Dai-Ichi is just minutes from the Ginza district and very close to the train/underground stations (there is a direct link to both by subway from the hotel). Our room was large, comfortable (although the decor a little old fashioned), we had a very comfortable bed and the room felt clean and the bathroom well equiped. The hotel supply both European and Japanese robes which is a nice touch. We enjoyed our stay.
