Great rooms but staff needs significant improvement
I stayed for six days but I will not return. The hotel itself is historic and amazing. The rooms are plush, clean, and well-maintained. The furniture was luxurious. The balcony was super except for the boring view. Many channels on the flat screen TV but few in the English language. Room service, minibar, internet, lobby bar and laundry service were all wildly overpriced. Metro was reasonably close but The location often translates to a steep climb up steep hills. But I was definitely winded when returning the hotel on foot. And the area is old world affluence; definitely not hip, young, or modern.
While the front desk staff and bellmen were fine, the rest of the hotel staff were horrible! Absolutely unacceptable for a hotel that considers itself world-class. I've recieved much better service at a Hampton Inn in Kansas City. It was amazing how rude the staff were at the concierge desk. These old Italian men need to learn who is the customer and who is the employee. And wrong! They were repeatedly flat wrong about locations and operating hours of various resturants. Speaking with them was both insulting and counter-productive. The housekeeping staff were pleasant but barely competent. And the manager was apologetic but unhelpful when I called attention to the errors of the staff. Definitely not worth the price tag rate under any circumstance, even when price is no object.
