I would go back!
By ,
The thing that I will remember from this stay was the service. OUTSTANDING! I can not say enough about the staff. All spoke English, and were there to make your stay more comftorable. The food was great too! However, the pool was a bit small yet had a relaxing and luxourious sauna room. I would stay here again!

fantastic experience
By ,
Location is perfect walking distant to most places in Rome for sightseeing. It is friendly and comfortable with a huge lobby that is welcoming. We travel all over the world and always travel with our son, who is currently 22 months; and at this hotel he was treated like a king. They are very child friendly do not let the lavish decor trick you into thinking otherwise. The indoor pool is a nice touch especally for kids, the gym and beauty treatments are also wonderful for adults after a long day of sightseeing. It is close to Parco Borghese where the kids can run around and just be kids and the adults can take in the views, the history and enjoy good food and coffee at the park cafes. Having stayed in hotels in Rome before , I cannot say enough good things about our experience at Westin Excelsior Rome. While it may appear pricey to some, if you are traveling with children you know how their comfort can make or break your trip. A wonderful cot bed/crib, high chair and personal service at breakfast topped our morning and got us off to a good start. Two nearby grocery stores make picking up baby needs easy as well as a pharmacy across the street. There room sizes across the board are bigger than most Rome hotels. Room rate with breakfast included is the best value. The only downside is that the Hotel does not have a handicap ramp for wheelchairs or child strollers. There is always staff on hand to help get those who need it down or up the steps, of which there are not a lot, but it is a drawback. Once inside there are more steps up the the grand rooms of the lobby and breakfast room as well as a couple of steps to reach the elevators to get to the guest rooms. While this aspect was disappointing it has not put me off at all, and I would most certainly stay here again. I cannot thank the staff throughout the hotel enough for making our stay so wonderfully comfortable and enjoyable and will book again soon.

Fantastic Experience
OK, it's been 10 years since my husband and I stayed at the Excelsior, but I came across this site in a search and had to add my post. d I'm disappointed to see the few negative posts, but our experience was absolutely phenomenal in every way. Our room was gorgeous and sumptuously decorated. The bed was kings size and the linen was lush and comfortable. The bathroom was very clean, and I'm a germ freak), lots of lovely toiletries were available and beautifully packaged. The concierge and staff were extremely helpful and the location could not be better. Our week long stay was nothing short of fabulous and our plan is to stay again the next time we are in Rome. Tuscany is this year's trip with no time to venture to Rome, but I have Excelsior in my sites in the very near future. Unless something drastic has happened since our stay, I highly recommend the Excelsior. Westin normally has lovely properties.

Very dissapointed would not stay there again
By ,
Our room was large but it was not very clean the paint work and walls were very dirty looked like it needed re decorating, the bathroom tiles were very dirty and were not washed or wiped at all We were very dissapointed as the price was high, breakfast average. Had stayed at a hotel Splendid in Florence wish we had stayed in the same one in Rome. We were there for 5 nights and the room was not vacumed properly as there was still things on the floor when we left that had been there before. Very poor value. Only good point was the bed.

Great Hotel
By ,
This was a wonderful experience. If you get a chance to stay there...do! The rooms are beautiful, the service is courteous, discreet, sublime. You could not ask for a location that is better as far as seeing the sites. My companion and I walked everywhere. Unsure about the distance to the Coliseum, we mistakenly took a cab but could have walked there. We walked home, starting and stopping along the way as something caught our interest. Room service is expensive but it's good to indulge yourself every now and then and we did. I don't regret a dime-which is about what the dollar was worth when we were there last fall. By the way, we had one of the best 7 days of weather imaginable.

Not clean, awful location, expensive
By ,
Maybe my expectation were too high based on what you would get in the US, but for $600/night we got a small room that was beautifully decorated, but not very clean or comfortable. I've seen some users mention the terrific beds and bedding, but we had sagging beds and sheets like you get at K-Mart. They also tried to nickel-and-dime us for everything like high-priced internet access and $60 for a breakfast in bed. There was no iron or kitchenette or even an electric kettle. One thing we noticed in Italy is that they will definitely judge you on appearances. My wife and I were definitely younger than most other guests and were dressed down and a bit sweaty when we checked in (just finished a 12-hr trip). I think they took this as license to treat us poorly (but charge full price). The staff were curt in our limited dealings. I wanted to give the desk clerk a piece of my mind, but he was on the phone the entire time he was taking my money and didn't even care to ask if we had a pleasant stay. The Via Veneto area has lots of top hotels, but not much else. Villa Borghese park is loud and more of theme park than a city park (terrible for picnics). If we ever go to Rome again, we would stay near Piazza Navona or Campo Di Fiori and we will never stay at a Westin (or Starwood) again.

Tody, 3-19-07 I am planing another trip
By ,
Beautiful hotel. Stayed there in 1978, everything was perfect. The hotel food was exceptional, especially their breakfast. You could walk to the Spanish Steps, if your a hicker, but we would take a taxi.
