Hilton Reykjavik Nordica, Reykjavik

Outstanding staff, accommodations, and location, this hotel is an asset to the Hilton brand! The VOX restaurant, while delicious, is very pricey, but the breakfast is worth the expense! Don't plan on watching television too much, but then, who visits Iceland to watch TV? Purchase the Reykjavik pass to visit museums and use the busing system, and Reykjavik will be a memorable trip. Be sure to visit Videy Island and the "Imagine Peace" tower. Our flight home was delayed for Superstorm Sandy, and both Icelandair and the Hilton Nordica went above and beyond expectations to make sure we were comfortable. Be sure to bring good rain gear and have fun!

The Nordica is clean, comfortable, and well managed. It was by far the best hotel I stayed in when visiting Iceland. Staff was frienndly and helpful (but then, so are most people you will meet in Iceland). They serve a great breakfast buffet! Hotels outside Reykjavik tend to be spartan, so if you plan to move around treat yourself to some creature comfort while you can.

We stayed at the Nordica for a week in Autumn of 2004. The location is great, within walking distance of a couple decent restaurants, a couple of convenience stores and a grocery store (more on this later). It's also a long but doable walk downtown. The hotel is immaculately clean, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Our room had a great view of the ocean over the tops of a similarly immaculate city, and the room itself was simply but tastefully appointed in a spare, IKEA-esque mode. The queen-size bed included two separate comforters, too, for ultimate warmth (one for each person, so cuddly to wrap around you). The breakfast buffet is fantastic, and especially important in Iceland, as everything in Iceland bears an outrageous sales tax, including groceries, but most especially restaurants. Load up at the buffet, which begins with cod liver oil shots but ends with every Western-style breakfast item under the sun, and you'll do okay. The cost of the hotel is so worth it if you factor the included buffet into the price. Don't believe me? Just try finding breakfast for less than $25 a person elsewhere. Unless you want to eat $4.00 pilsur (hot dogs) all day, you will appreciate the Nordica's breakfast offerings. Oh yes, and I said I'd talk more about the hotel's proximity to restaurants and grocery stores. There's a restaurant right up the street where you can get a dinner buffet for about $35 a person - way cheap. And if you buy groceries, which carry a smaller tax (like 13%) than other items, you can eat even cheaper. The only drawback to staying at the Nordica was their movie selection. If you plan on spending a lot of time in your room, beware that unless things have changed since we were there, their movie channel replays the same movie over and over, 24/7. We were treated to the amazing Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson opus "The Rundown" all day, every day, for the ENTIRE WEEK. Good God. And all the other channels were in Icelandic. Luckily, we spent most of our time outdoors. Summary: Good value if you include breakfast; clean, comfortable, convenient.

Nice hotel, a little expensive though. Extremely clean and rooms have a good view of the city. Has a good location in walking distance to many great restaurants and shops. Bathrooms are quite spacious and the beds are very comfortable. I liked it that they had hardwood floors because most hotels seem to have carpet which aggravates my sinuses. Nordica has a wonderful spa and a restaurant in the lobby called the Vox. The Scandinavian style buffet breakfast makes up for the price of the stay. If you stay there, you must check out the breakfast.

Totally newly remodeled, the inside of the Nordica is a surprise of pleasant simplistic style. Our room overlooked the back lot and office buildings but it was not an unpleasant view. The room itself was immaculate as was the elevator up to the floor and the hallway leading to our room at the far end of it. The lounge areas in the main lobby were inviting and comfortable especially the seating area in front of the gas fireplace with its low romantic flame. All personnel were friendly and helpful.
The typical European style breakfast buffet including smoked salmon and other styles of herring plus Swedish pancakes,scrambled eggs, sausages, fruit, meats, pastries, cereals, breads, etc., was
abundant and delicious. Eight of us had dinner on a Saturday night in the Vox Restaurant. The dinner lasted for three hours with every course presented at the right spacing of time. Along with the items ordered from the menu, three additional surprises were served to us. Many servers waited on us and after each course was served, we were given a detailed explanation of what was on the plate in front of each of us if it was different from what others had ordered. Were you ever served Foam of Haddock Soup? What a treat!!! We were in Iceland as a part of a small group tour. We did not have on fancy Saturday night dinner clothes but the servers treated us as if we were royalty. Yes, it was a very expensive meal, as most dinners in a nice restaurant in Iceland can be but we knew that before we made our reservations and YES, it was worth every krona/penny. The food was as delcious as the beauty of the presentation on the plate; EVERY bite of it. There was not one speck of food left on our plates at the end of each course. When in Iceland/Hotel Nordica plan on treating yourself to dinner in Vox and wear a smile of sweet rememberance when paying your credit card bill the next month. It is worth it.
