Peaks of Otter Lodge, Bedford

Very rustic-no tv or cell phone. Room was clean-could stand updates. No outlets in small bath for blowdryer, etc. Restful surroundings. Attached restaurant had good service and the best fried chicken I ever ate! Have to go there once...

I am a nature fanatic, so the lack of television and phones was a nice touch for us. My husband and I stayed at the Peaks on our wedding night and have returned every year since. The surrounding area is pretty simple...trees, a large beautiful lake (which every room overlooks) and peaceful grazing deer. If you're looking for a quiet getaway, this is the spot. We did a little fishing in the lake, visited the local winery and ate a delicious southern-style dinner by candelite (which also overlooks the lake with wall to wall windows) This was a very romantic experience. This place holds a special place in our heart and we will return for many years to come.

We liked the lodge very much. It is very quiet and peaceful with rustic,simple decor that is appropriate to the natural beautiful setting. Very serene environment, lots of deer grazing close by. We did not miss a tv or phone AT ALL for the few days we stayed there. Our 4 year old daughter also enjoyed it. It's very family friendly (kids menu in restaurant)Prices are very reasonable. The whole Blue Ridge region was a great value in our opinion compared to beaches in mid-Atlantic where we live. Our room was comfortable and clean, nothing fancy but quite nice.

I love the food, rooms, gift shop and the employees, they are still wonderful at th Peaks of Otter Lodge. I think the new company that bought the place has taken a lot of pride, spent a lot of money and has done awonderful job fixing up the place and the changes are for the better. I can remember a few years ago before the place was sold the shap it was in and that was not too good. I still see a lot of the old staff is around, they tell me that the new company has treated all of them very good. Although some of the staff had to retire and some have passed away. The new company that bought the place did not change any of the people that were there, they kept them all. Some just got too old to work any more and retired like me. Anyway, I think the Peaks of Otter is still a grand old place and I love to visit with them about 3 or 4 times a year. Keep up the good work old friend.

The location is great. The rooms are old 50's style with no amenities. It is a $38.00 room there selling for $92.00 per night with no telephone, TV etc. If you can spend an addtional 20 minutes riding, get off the Parkway and get a good room at a reasnable rate.

It is a perfect place to reconnect with nature and your family. It is so peaceful to relax. The trails are fun for adults and kids to reconnect with each other and learn about history.

My family has traveled to the peaks for the last 30 years. It is my parents favorite destination. It will be where they spend eternity. Unfortunately they won't stay at the lodge as much as they used to. The service, food and friendliness have changed since the buy out a couple of years back. Most of the staff have been replaced and that is a bad thing in this case. They were the heart and sole of the place.
