If you're looking for a little Kitsch, stop here!
I'm a huge fan of quirky, and this place definitely fit the bill. Built in the 1950's, it has definitely seen it's day, but it still holds the same charm as it did in days gone by. Granted, the room wasn't brand new and the walls showed signs of wear. Our room was clean, though needed new paint job. The bathroom was all black tile, which was nice. I had plenty of space to put my toiletries on the little lit alcove with a mirror. The rooms sit far enough off of the main strip (with a huge lawn in between the motel and the road) that you don't get any 'ambience' from passing cars.
The front lawn still has the old shuffleboard cement pads, as well as the original metal umbrellas and furniture. It also had a large working fountain, and my son loved being able to run all around after being cooped up in a car. The hosts at the desk were very friendly, and forthcoming with information about local shopping. The breakfast is lacking, with just cereal and doughnuts, but heck, for $55, who cares. We had a ball imagining what the place was like in the 50's. There is even a painting on the wall of the lobby with the original buildings, and 50's era cars in the parking spaces! Oh, and the parking spaces are huge!!!
The laundry room, down the stairs on the lower level of the parking area, has the original washers and dryers, and is the only place i can think of where you can still do a load for $.25 per machine... that's nuts!!!
There is a resturant located on one end of the driveway, an italian place, that was fantastic (get the chicken parmesan), and well worth the 50 yard walk from our room.
If you're a snob who needs to have pressed linens and doesn't appreciate a little character, stay elsewhere, and leave this little gem of history to those of us who will appreciate it. Cleanliness, Shmenliness... this place is adorable!
