Balcony...bait and switch
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/10/08
On July 4th, we booked a room with a balcony to watch the fireworks and the bats. I was told to use 1-800-check-in to confirm my room early in the morning. They said a room with a balcony was available. When we arrived, the front desk looked at me like I was crazy. They only have a few balcony rooms in the hotel. They overpromised and underdelivered. Baited me with a balcony room and switched me to a matchbox of a room. I'll never go back.

Nice, with drawbacks
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/07
I found the location fine and the staff especially helpful, polite and kind. My room was comfortable. My problem with this property is that it is a LARGE hotel, meaning lots of conventions, big parties and crowds. When I stayed, (4 days in mid-October),there was a huge costume party, a realtors convention and a prom - which went on until after midnight with high school kids running around the property. If you want quiet or romance, this may not be the place for you, especially on the weekends. The young man who brought our room service was surprised when we told him we were tourists - "We don't get many casual visitors here. Mostly business people" he said. That said, access to city and the S. Congress area is good. Lake view rooms have a beautiful view of the lake and Austin skyline. Restaurants and lounges are good, though a bit pricey and service could be better. Room service was very, very good however. Oh, and if you are a runner, the jogging trail is fine. If you want to take a nice quiet walk, avoid the path on Saturday mornings when rabid packs of runners will literally run you off the path.

Margaritavile
By Candace Lynn, 09/26/06
The Lobby is breath taking. The Bar is in the middle of the Lobby surronded by water. The Margarittas are so big they look like a fish bowl.

Great view!
By Jeffery T, 10/01/05
The lake view rooms at this hotel are fantastic. The view is of Town Lake (actually the Little Colorado River) and beyond into downtown Austin. It is also very close to Sixth Street, the entertainment mecca of Austin, and amazing restaurants on Barton Springs Road.

My wife and I had a great time on our stay. I expected a little more detail for the price. The staff was wonderful and helpful, and the veiw from our room over Austin was great.
