The Ultimate Boston Experience
If you have ever seen the Martin Scorsese's movie The Age of Innocence you may recall a scene where the camera is panning slowly through a hotel lobby to show the decadence of the era. That hotel is the Fairmont Copley Plaza. The first time I stayed there I remember opening the door to the room and seeing a large sitting room with windows on two sides that looked out onto Copley Square, the Boston Library and other area sites. I remember immediately wondering where the bed was; then turning to see that there was another room of equal size decorated in gold and white that was, in fact, the bedroom. Both rooms hid the TVs in massive old armoires, and a walk into the bath found marble from floor to ceiling. The hotel lobby is absolutely stunning. As a former New England resident, I always made sure to take visitors through this magnificent hotel's common spaces, which always elicited awe. I also highly recommend adding a show at the Wang Center to complement the Fairmont experience. It is worth the price of tickets just to see the theatre... the performance is simply a bonus. A trip to Boston is not complete without experiencing what Edith Wharton called The Age of Innocence. Don't miss it.
