Galt House Hotel, Louisville

My husband and I came to Louisville for our anniversary (we are late 20s early 30s). we had a great time! it was Labor day weekend. TOns of different people to meet and interact with. The room was very clean, no stains on our carpets, little dated (but what hotels arent these days?) we didn't have any problems with customer services! anytime we had a question they answered to the best of their ability. Hotel is very close to alot of things, for the price we got the room ($60/night....usually 130-140/night) we didnt think it was a bad deal. we enjoyed sitting at ALJ's lounge and having a couple drinks and we will definatly be back!

The Galt House is clean and well-maintained, this is immediately obvious. The price is fair, it costs more than some other hotels, but the customer receives a better experience. There are fees for some services, such as the gym, but these are more reasonable than the typical hotel's. The dining is also reasonably priced and the food is delicious. The dining was memorable and stands out. The gym has a panoramic view and is spacious, make sure to visit it. Finally, the staff is customer-oriented, outgoing, and friendly. Part of this is southern warmth and friendliness. I was told that the management goes the "extra mile" for the employees - this impacts the service, too, I am certain. Three employees especially stood out, Cassidy, a waitress in the Magnolia Room, Travis, the masseur, and the polished, welcoming lady working at the desk in the east building when I arrived on the evening of September 7 (I wish that I knew her name). I had a fun vacation at the Galt House and hope that you do too.

Let me start my review by saying that I got this room on Priceline for $50 the standard price is $140 - 160. So I had low expectations going into it, but this place really amazed me with how bad it was. I really don't understand some of the positve reviews of this hotel, it is like they where reviewing a different hotel. After parking in the garage the first impression is set by the elevator which is beat up, has stained carpets, and smells. Then on to the lobby that looks like a throw back to 1970's Vegas, except with cracked tiles and distinct smell of mold and smoke. I stayed on the 22nd floor of the Revue tower. The Revue tower is advertised as "recently renovated" I didn't know that replacing a few pieces of furniture and putting up new wall paper counted as renovated. Even with the renovations the place looks like you stepped into a time warp back to a bad 1970's Vegas hotel that hasn't been keep up in the last 30 years. Now the interesting part, when I got to my room on the southwest corner of the 22nd floor this is what I found. The carpet was awful, it looked like the carpet in my frat house, the room smelled musty, the shower was covered in dirt and to top it off there was BLOOD on the toilet seat. Needless to say I changed rooms. My second room was on the east side of the 23rd floor. The room was marginally cleaner than the first (smaller carpet stains and no blood). At this point I just wanted to get some sleep so I could get the hell out of there. The problem is that on the east side of the Revue tower you face the older tower and the road noise from the interstate is ridiculous. The walls/windows don't seem to be insulated enough to stop the sound of the semis rumbling by all night long. I had to sleep with my head between two pillows. So to summarize this is maybe a 1 star hotel at best in my book. A hotel has to be sanitary to get more than 1 star from me. So if you value a clean room or a good nights sleep don't ever set foot in The Galt House Hotel & Suites, even at $50 per night it is over priced.

Likes: Location Dislikes: Stains on bedspread, no customer comment forms and $5.00 to workout??? They shouldn't have renovated their workout room if they have to chissle their guests to pay for it. Also, no refrigerators or microwaves in the rooms, continential breakfasts or complementary coffee in the lobby...Not even a cookie like Doubletree...But the location is good...

The staff advised us when we checked in that they had upgraded us to a suite. What a nice surprise. Everyone was super. The concierge, however, gave us bad directions and seemed preoccupied the whole time we were asking him questions. He also gave us discounts to the wrong museum for the Titanic exhibition. The suite was clean and the beds very comfortable. We did have to keep the a/c to the lowest temperature as it was warm (in November even). We were on the 9th floor but the elevators came quickly. It seemed as if the whole hotel was occupied with the nicest people staff and occupants. Would love to go back soon!

I stayed here for 2 weeks the 1st week of Oct and have a few complaints and will list then then explain and also explain good things: 1. AC Broken for 2days 2. Old Tower facing new tower, loud traffic noise 3. Hookers in the lobby area 4. AC broke again 2nd week I was there 5. $12 a day to park 6.No microwave/fridge in rooms (have to rent) 7. Outrageous prices on food 8. Outdated "old" tower 9. 1 pool and it is outside (closed for season) I would think w/1300 hotel rooms would also be an indoor pool. 10. NO Breakfast at all Good things; 1. Very well located 2. Walking distance to everything 3. Friendly staff Well, I did not pay for this room, I was in town for business so the value I can not agree or disagree since work paid it. I was placed in the "Rivue" Tower which is the old tower. My room faced the new tower and the roadway. VERY loud due to traffic running between the towers as well as taxi drivers blowing horns, bell men yelling etc. After the 1st day, the AC went out on my floor as well as others. Some people got moved to the other tower which was nice however I did not move and my floor was hot. Since I was lower, my room was 76 the whole time so it did not bother me. When I came back the 2nd week, my room which was on 21st floor now, AC went out. Maintanence replaced the unit so it was fine after that. There is not a microwave or a fridge in the room either, you can "rent" a fridge but I was told you could only fit 2 soft drinks in it and I am unsure the price. I have stayed in nice hotels that cost under $70 and had both of these items and this made it hard for me since I saved some dinner and used it for lunch the following day, I was forced to buy a styrofone cooler to keep drinks and ice in as well as the lunch so each night for dinner, I was sure to get something that didnt need to be microwaved. I walked around and found the pool but it was closed, I am in shock there is not an indoor pool with how big this place is. The price of the Restraunts were very high and even the "Thelmas" where bfast food/sandwhiches are sold was VERY high. This was another reason why I saved dinner. I was in shock that no breakfast was provided at all, not even a contential breakfast. I bought milk for the cooler, ceral and oatmeal and used the coffee pot to heat up water for oatmeal. Nice to eat this out of a coffee cup, I am suprised even a coffee maker was in the room. I hung out at the bar area and was encountered by two hookers, After talking to one for about 30 minutes for fun, she finally told me $500 and she would go back to the room which I declined thank you! I guess this is expected for a nice place. Nice thing about the hotel, very close to EVERYTHING. 4th street is only a few blocks, great place to hang out, Louisville Slugger museum about 4 blocks away, Joes Crab Shack 5 minute walk. If I were to come back to Louisville, I may consider this place depending on what I want to see, however I will defentialy keep my eyes open for other places instead.

the room had a bad smell. air freshners didn't help. there was grout lines in the shower stall had black mold. i wouldn't stay here again.

Absolutely wonderful. I see why rich and famous people use this hotel during the Kentucky Derby. It sits on the waterfront and it’s not that far from Churchill Downs. Galt House sits on the Ohio River, is walking distance from the Ali Center and 4th Street Live. It's also not that far from some of the main freeways. Galt has a grand look on the inside with a giant chandelier greeting you when walking in the lobby as well as a tentative staff. Their courtesy desk can help with information and sites around the city which is a plus when trying to experience Louisville. One of the features at Galt House is the see-through elevators. It takes a little time to get use to, but you can get some great pictures while traveling up and down to your room. There are plenty of banquet halls and meeting rooms for conventions, and it’s connected to a walkway leading to food, shops, and business. This hotel also have a variety of restaurants but one in particular is the rotating one called the Rivue. Go to the Restaurant/Food section for Louisville to see a review on that. There is a greenhouse, which has a place to watch tv, get something to drink, and relax by a piano to look at the city skyline. The suites where huge with a living room area and bedroom. Both rooms have their own tv and the living room had a pullout bed for extra guests. There is plenty of places to put your luggage so stay in Louisville for many days and you won’t have a problem with your items. Overall, if you’re coming to Kentucky, stay at the Galt House, you won’t disappointed.

I thought the hotel was clean, but not what it is made out to be. You can hear the road noise at night so if u have a hard time sleeping stay elsewhere. The beds are comfy, but the air has to stay on to keep your room cool. The place is huge do imagine trying to keep an entire building cool that really needs better insulation to begin with. HA! The elevators stop at almost every floor takes 10 minutes to get from the 20th floor to ground level. Food and drinks are over priced and very average. Go elsewhere during happy hour you will be much happier. Majority of the employees act snotty in the bar and restaurant area. The restaurant, the Rivue nice looking but that is about it. Everytime I walk the hotel I think "Redrum", "Redrum" yeah you know what that line is from The Shining, Murder spelled backwards....What else can I say, oh yeah DONT STAY HERE unless of course you are the idiot whom likes to throw your money away and doesnt mind getting overcharged out the tail end. There are a number of hotels that are Nicer and give you quality for your money. I prefer the Hilton or the Drury but if u stay here dont say I didnt warn you........ and I didnt even pay for my room, if you live or work in KY your tax dollars did. Not by my choice though I was there for business and was originally supposed to stay elsewhere but the building was closed down. Yeah I could have ended up in a worse place than this if not, but alas this place is overpriced. And whatever you do dont let them book you a room in the Rivue tower under the restaurant it is very noisy from the revolving floor, as well as by the elevator and ice machines.
