LIKE GETTING ROBBED? THIS IS YOUR HOTEL
STAY AWAY - CRIMINAL ACTIVITY IN THE AREA, OWNER TURNING A BLIND EYE AND REFUSING TO COVER COSTS OF DAMAGES
I had my car broken into about an hour after parking in this hotel's attached garage. Window was smashed in, items stolen from inside, and my stay ruined. Hotel refused to do anything about it, claiming they were not responsible for theft or damage to guest property in the garage.
The HELL they aren't! Their inadequate security (one guard patrolling hotel and garage, insufficient security cameras) and failure to increase security in response to reports of garage theft in the area, directly contributed to my 'misfortune' as they like to call it. The law in Indiana says that they have "a duty of ordinary care" to prevent these types of losses to their guests, but they are refusing to honor that duty and recoup the costs of repairing my vehicle and replacing the stolen items. What's more, they are taking no action to correct the problems that led to my loss. I'm set to file a formal court action against them now, and expect to prevail.
Moral of the story - STAY AWAY. These guys claim that 'guest comfort and security is our top priority', BUT THEY DON'T MEAN IT. They only care about the bottom line, and I for one am going to make sure they feel the pinch where it matters to them.
And it wasn't just the hotel owners who refused to help - IHG (Holiday Inn's parent company) gave me the same song and dance, standing behind their unlawful corporate policies. They'll be losing my business as well, and will be named in my complaint.
Want to get robbed??? I didn't. I just came for a decent night's stay, and ended up walking away about $650.00 poorer. If that's the kind of experience you want to have, this is the hotel for you. If not, consider this a friendly warning from a fellow road warrior, and take your business elsewhere. I for one will be staying at the Hyatt Place in Mishawaka from now on - accommodations excellent, customer relations superb, and security problems non-existent.
