EXCELLENT hotel, but know where the rip-offs are
This is a beautiful newer Niagara Falls hotel. We found the staff to be very helpful and polite. There are many types of rooms (ex. city-view, falls-view and the deluxe type presidental rooms) but every room is a suite and every room is extremely comfortable...big comfy bed and pillows, large bathroom with 2 sinks (very handy with a family) and I loved the whirlpool-type bathtub (they say they have one in every room!)...you don't have to order a "jacuzzi room"...even the most basic rooms have this 2-person bathtub with waterjets! And every room has a littel kitchenette as well, and we found the microwave and little fridge really handy for left-overs. Every night they offer a "manager's reception" which is a little snack-buffet, and every morning they offer a full-breakfast (which is not just coffe and bagels...it's really nice). They have a nice big pool and a nice rec/gym area and even a small arcade center for the kids. The location is very central for tourists...a beautiful view of the falls and right next to the Fallsview Casino...about a 10 minute walk downhill to the Falls. Now for the 'negatives'...you can wait a long time for elevators, especially when the hotel is busy. We decided to get a bit of excercise, save time, and took the stairs (at least to go down). There are "little hidden costs", like at most hotels, such as paying for phone calls (find a pay phone...it's cheaper) and tokens (for the vending machine) are expensive and parking is not free ($20/day)....of course you can always park your car next door at the Fallsview Casino...as long as you get a Player's Advantage Card (PAC card) and play a little in the casino, then parking is free...otherwise, it's $5/day for weekdays, $10/day for weekends. There is also the "DMF" fee which you may find on your bill. That's the "Destination Marketing Fee" (sometimes called "Delevopment Fee" or "hotel tax" or "room tax") and it's an extra 3%. But, according to the MPP (member of parliment) Kim Craitor, "you do not have to pay that fee; it is voluntary". This is quoted in the Niagara Falls Review Aug.13 2008 issue. So be aware of that....also, be aware that there is about 15% tax in Canada, so prices can add up quickly, as well, you may not get "bank rate" exchange with American money. Many hotels, resturants and tourism operations can offer their own exchange rate and it is never as good as the bank rate. Use your credit card to pay for things (so that you will get the bank exchange rate on your bill) or have your US money converted to Canadian at a real bank...to avoid getting ripped off. All in all...great hotel, I loved it! :)
