\"The view is always in my rearview window\"
By ,
Great location! Timeshare owners at Avalon and I agree with most postings here, its so sad they lost the beach to hurricanes. We love the room arrangement and view. There's so many restaurants that we usually eat our meals on the strip most that you can walk to or catch the bus to downtown to LaParilla! We also enjoy going into downtown to the grocery store and purchasing fruit and easy things to eat in the room to fill in. Its a unique, small quiet place that I miss every day. Saving for a flight now!

I love this place
By ,
We love Cancun, so we go as much as possible! We have a timeshare with sister hotel in Isla Mujeres. This was the first time going to Avalon Grand Cancun. It was great, its a smaller hotel so its perfect for you to get personal service. The best bartender is in the lobby, not on the pool side(hint). They knew my boyfriend by name because he is such a loud person! Its a family hotel, but they put us on the side with no children so I was very thankful. Rooms were spacious, and clean. It was more like an efficiency, even though we were hardly in the room. We went with our best friend, and her husband, and they loved it. Food was amazing, it was not too authentic for people that cant handle it, but upon request they will make it to your liking, We had our all inclusive package, wich is the way to go, and we ate all our meal there, and I know I gained weight at how much I ate! Even though tips are not required on an all inclusive packages, its good to tip. The staff is amazing, you will never get that type of customer service in the states. I know they do not make that much hourly so the tips are what they survive on, that is why they excell at great service. When we left we gave all the people that went out of their way $20 a piece, and they were so thankful!.. The beach is wonderful, and FOR AN EARLIER COMMENT, there is beach access, right by the pool. I recommend it to everyone!!!

Awful!!
By ,
I read the reviews for this hotel and I was very skeptical, but figured I would give it a shot. I should have gone with my gut and changed hotels! Upon arrival my family was told our room was not ready but to go and speak with someone for a quick overview of the facilities. Well that conversation was over an hour long trying to get us to book an appointment for a timeshare tour. We finally got to our room to find the all mirrors with huge black marks all over them. Luckily they were able to change our room. Went to the beach to order food the menu was written on a napkin - ordered a beer and was told they were out of BEER, ordered nachos they were out of cheese. Left with a water. Later that night we went to dinner same thing - extremely limited menu. They were out of everything! This went on for 2.5 days. They finally received some food, but only to find out the selection was still terrible and nothing was appealing. To top everything off the shower did not work. They water would go on full force then completely shut off once it came back on it was scolding hot. You had to step away let it adjust and then get back in. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. I have travelled often and have never had such a bad experience. The only redeeming quality was the restaurant staff - they were all amazing and felt terrible for us.

I loved staying this hotel.
By ,
Overall it was a comfortable hotel for two of us. The people were very nice and they worked hard for guests, the atmosphere was cozy and calm. However I was not happy about our house keeper. She could do better job for the bathroom. The ocean view- studio type room was spacious with great view. The bed was nice and firm. The breakfast was excellent! When we go back to Cancun, I would love to stay here again.

O.K. No Beach Access
By ,
The price was nice, but there really is no beach to get to,you can look at it ,but we felt like we were on a cruise ship ,pretty, but you can,t touch,a strange feeling ,to be that close to the ocean, but really can,t get to it. I would try to stay at a resort that still has a large beach front .

Clean and pretty facility, very friendly people!
By ,
We had such a great time during our 8 day stay! The food was good, nothing really fancy, but good. The drinks were great! Transportation by bus is the way to go. It was a little intimidating, but once we tried it, it was so easy and there are bus stops everywhere! The staff at Avalon Grand were very friendly and did their best to accomodate us. The sister resort on Isla Mujeres (sorry if this is spelt wrong), was so wonderful also! People sound concerned about the beach, but there is a short beach. They are working on it. No problem though, you can take a stroll to some of the larger beaches done the shore. The water is gorgeous! We had a great time and will definitely be coming back!

Things to consider
By ,
When we got there we were subjected the presentation of information with regard to timeshares. It took almost 1 hour before we were shown to our rooms. We were informed that the stairs to the beach were closed and we would have to walk two hotels up to the Avalon Bacarra to get on the beach. When we looked at the beach access it was evident that with all the help they seemed to have on hand to sweep and garden that someone should have been able to "build a set of stairs" to access the 5 foot drop to the beach. Sandbags were in place by Sunday and most people could then access the beach. Lighting in the rooms was poor for reading and furniture was sparse. Our two bedroom unit had only one couch and four dining chairs. Food was good, service prompt and pleasant but communication between staff was unpredictable.

Good Value!!
By ,
We didn't know what to expect since this was our first time to Cancun. We were pleasantly suprised with our hotel. Our room was very clean with a beautiful view. The only down side of this hotel for us is that there is no longer much beach after the hurricane.

It was nice, hardly anybody ws there though because of the hurricane damage. They had just opened. Other than the construction in the next hotel it was nice.
