Red Cottage Inn & Suites, Menlo Park

It's a quiet, clean, cozy little place in a good location, a mile or so from Stanford. We particularly liked the little garden patios overlooking the pool, which include a table and chairs. There are plenty of places to eat along El Camino Real, a major thoroughfare. One of the most affordable places in the area, but you don't feel like you're slumming. My only complaint was that the fitness room, which is advertised on the web site, is still "under construction."

After researching extensively and deciding on the Red Cottage Inn, we were glad we did. The employees were extremely attentive and friendly. The rooms were really really clean and had just been remodeled. It was a great location and very quiet as it sits off the road a bit. The rooms contained a refrigerator and a microwave and our room (queen bed) had a tiled shower (no tub). The bed was very comfortable and housekeeping made the rooms up early in the day. We never came back to an unmade bed.

The man who checked me in, was by far the most rude, clearly I was invading his personal time, the rate suddenly shot up. Most likely he just didn't care to deal with a check-in.

We have stayed twice at this marvelous little inn. While right on El Camino, the rooms are set back far enough to almost be in another world. This time around we had a room with a balcony overlooking the inn's pool area pool and the beautifully mature landscape of a nearby condominium complex. The room was spotless and smelled fresh. The carpeting and furniture have obviously been recently replaced and the mattress was first rate. The staff was friendly and very helpful. The continental breakfast had a good variety of food and we appreciated the "to go" sacks that included fruit and bottled water. We would definitely recommend staying here.

My husband and I loved staying at this little place..absolutely charming. It doesn't feel like you're staying at a hotel in the middle of a city, it feels more like a lodge in the woods with all the conveniences of a new hotel but better.. They don't nickel and dime for internet and other little things. They give a great breakfast each morning - make sure you try the raisen bread! The rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. They went out of their way to get us reservations a steakhouse in town and we even got free appetizers since we were staying at the Red Cottage. The only downside was that it was a little noisy in the middle of the day since they are remodeling the hotel and they advertised a heated pool but it wasn't heated. They had mentioned that natural gas was too expensive to heat the pool in the winter, oh well what a bummer. But other than that we were very impressed.
