Bed bugs!!!!!
By ,
The good thing about this place is the location, other than that we will never ever come back to this motel! The beds were infested with bed bugs, my friends daughter woke up with over seven bites from her face down to her arms! When we pulled down the sheets we saw a very stained mattress cover, as well the bed bugs. We brought in the woman from the front desk to show her, she apologized and said we could call the manager who we have tried to reach several times and have had no luck. Also there was a leak in the bathroom from the room above us. Also the phone did not work, and we also had to keep going to the front desk to get housekeeping to clean our room. Lesson learned never sacrifice beauty for location, thoroughly do your research! We also have pictures of the bites and the bugs!

The Real Story - Long Term Style
By ,
I am a local resident who in the winter has no choice but to survive in this hotel. A couple years ago, my room was broken into leaving one of my roommates to end up in the hospital because he had be beaten with a hammer. A lot of drug attics and prostitution goes on in this hotel. One year I stayed in a room above the room where the housekeepers, and maintenance person lives. This particular room was infested with roaches. When the exterminator came out, he told me I would always have roaches as long as I live above her. The couches in the rooms are hand me downs from a hotel I used to work at. When Sandpiper received the couches, they were in excellent shape. When I returned the next year, they had been torn apart. And yes, there are bed bugs in every room. One of the long term residents was catching them and handing them over to the health department. The reason this hotel continues to pass inspection is because the health department will shut down over half the hotel and give the owners 2 weeks to fix it. The owners put bandaids on them just enough to pass that inspection. She did have the entrances redone professionally, but the insides are not done. There is mold within the walls. In some rooms it rains inside when weather is not good. The air conditioners do not work correctly. To those who do not already know, some people renting rooms pay more than others. The owner lowers your rate when you find out somebody with the same room pays less than you do. If you like privacy, this place is not it either. If you are due to pay more money or to check out, you get a one hour wake up call in person. They do not knock, they just walkin and tell you that you have to get ready to pay or check out. Housekeeping is given twice a week to those that plan on staying a few days. Proper maintenance cannot be performed because the owner is too cheap to put real money in the hotel. She alters the books so she can put more money in her pocket. The bed frames are supported by telephone books. To the person who commented on the phone lines, you are absolutely correct. When I stayed there a couple years ago, one of the long term residents had a newborn baby that stopped breathing and we had to wait 5 minutes for the owner to turn on the phone so we could call 911. Luckily there was another long term resident that was a part time paramedic. To those that commented on the good reviews, if you look at the 2 good reviews, the sceen name sam is the owners husband and the raj is the owner that everybody meets when you check in. People, some things are too good to be true. And the sandpiper inn has great prices, but the stay will cost you. Luckily for me, I have found housing and don't have to stay there anymore. But at least now you have the inside story.

ROACH-INVESTED FILTHINESS!
By ,
Pros: NONE! Cons: Roaches, broken door lock, filthy walls, doors, counters, ceilings, carpet, everything! We checked in, and literally checked out within four minutes of having the key. When we entered the room, we first noticed an odor and just an overall unclean feeling. My husband immediately tried to lock the door, but the lock was broken. I walked into the "kitchen" -- if you call it that. There was just a sink -- turned on the lights and watched cockroaches scatter. A few hung around like they were used to being around people. This was the most disgusting place I have ever been to. And to top it off, they didn't want to refund our money until we started saying in front of other guests how filthy it was. Do yourself a favor, spend an extra $40 and stay at the Flagship. One block from the beach, exceptionally clean rooms, great service, friendly staff, plenty of parking. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Even though I still have nightmares about the Sandpiper.

“Sandpiper inn was very pleasant.”
By ,
This was my first time staying at Sandpiper inn, so I wasn't sure what to expect when my husband and I arrived. We were in Virginia Beach to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary, and the Sandpiper inn did not disappoint us. The room was exceptionally clean, the balcony was larger than most hotel balconies and had a nice clean floor, and the views were amazing. We chose a side view room, so we could see the sound as well as the ocean. I was really impressed with the housekeeping service, and the fact that our room was cleaned before noon every day. The staff was always very friendly too. The rates are exceptional. We had absolutely no complaints and will definitely stay here again the next time we travel to the Virginia Beach.

it's good
By ,
What I liked about this motel was, the increadable view of the lake. Watching the sunset was very beautiful. It's also very close to the beach. But What I didn't like was that there were cockroaches. Other than that, I liked it for its price and its view.

Please Read before staying at Sandpiper Inn
By ,
On the internet, where I searched for a place to stay, Sandpiper Inn seemed to be a decent, pet friendly hotel from the pictures. My family and I had reserved 3 rooms that were to be close together if possible and manager, Rachel Patel stated, yes, if possible. The place was pretty well deserted except for the few "locals" who stay there. One room was upstairs, One in corner on first floor, and the third around back. (nowhere close). We had pets in 2 rooms and were told over the phone that they couldn't be in the kitchenette rooms. When we got our rooms, the animals had to be in the bottom floor (where the kitchenette was). The people staying in the hotel at the time were staring at us as if they were looking for valuables to steal at the right moment. The manager said that they were "locals" who stayed there after peak season. It looked as though we were watching America's Most Wanted in the parking lot. There were many people that came and went out of these motel rooms and seemed as though it were a drug ring. As soon as you walk in the room you feel dirty. The rooms smelled of dog urine and feces, the linens smelled like sewage and the beds, when reluctantly sat on almost touched the carpet, which looked as though it had never been cleaned. The dressers were falling apart, the furniture was filthy, the microwave was rusted, and the door to the motel room looked as though it had been broken into and you can see the outside through the crack. The frame, where the door latches,(it barely latches, by the way) was replaced with wood. There is no bolt lock on the door whatsoever. The so called "kitchenette" was barely big enough to move around in and had one little light to see by (probably so you couldnt see the mess). The stove quit working, so the "fix-it" man came, pulled the stove out (along with cigarette butts, years worth of dirt, and other nasty things), and attempted to fix it while smoking a cigarette of his own. When he couldnt entirely fix it he had the nerve to bring a deep fryer which had used oil in it and the outside had dirt, hairs, etc. caked on it like it had been there for months(and expected us to actually eat out of it)! We left shortly after that (had been there maybe 2 or 2 1/2 hours) We packed what few things we had unpacked to cook and asked for a refund. Management said that the room needed to be spruced and refused to give us the money back for that night. My family and I have been to many run-down hotel/motel rooms, but this one surpasses them all. It is the filthiest, trashy place we have EVER stayed in. I would not recommend this hole in the wall to anyone. No family, especially ones with small children should stay here.

“Don't believe these reviews!”
By ,
After seeing the other reviews, I was reluctant to stay here. But let me tell you, I'm glad I did. I checked the prices all around, and if you are on a budget, this is the place to stay. Our room was clean and there were no bugs. It is not the "Plaza or the Hilton", so if you are expecting that, I suggest you move on. You are right across from the beach and boardwalk, good location. My only complaint is still the parking. Parking is very tight. The first night I had to park in front of the office... but the night manager was friendly and helpful. Plenty of room for a family of 5. I would stay there again.
