I stayed at this 'motel' and that term is used loosely. The other comments were right. Rooms cleaned once a week, take out your own trash, no toilet paper so bring your own, the bed spread had disqusting stains on it, sheets had holes from cigarette burns in them and I had a non-smoking room. Disturbing thing is they have a hot tub and after seeing the cleanliness of the rooms, I wouldn't dare go close to that thing.
People live in this hotel as if it is an apartment complex and there are constant problems there. If this were an actual motel and some routine maintenance had been done over the years, it could be a very nice place. A picture in the lobby of when the motel was new shows a very nice place to stay with family activities, such as horse shoes, on site.
People take stereos into their rooms and play loud music all night which is really bad considering the walls are that cheap fake wood that is about 1/8" thick. Not even drywall. This also results in you hearing 'other things' you don't want to hear. During my wonderful stay, the cops were a common occurence. One fine citizen barricaded himself in his room for about one hour resulting in nobody in the 'motel' getting any sleep. The room next to me was broken into and the ladies money was missing. This could be attributed to the fact the windows don't lock very well or that they use actual keys in the doors. I am sure these are the original keys from when the place was built.
Bottom line, DO NOT STAY HERE. I was scared thinking of the amount of meth that must have been cooked in this place. If you are looking for somewhere cheap to stay, there is a Hostel in town which I hear is better or even stay in a tent. Anything would be better. If you have to stay here, bring your own bedding, toilet paper, make sure you have all your immunizations and it may not hurt to bring a gun for protection.
This place is terrible!! It is in a great location but the service leaves ALOT to be desired!! They only clean the rooms once a week. I mean changing the sheets too!! I have NEVER heard of a hotel that only changes the sheets once a week and only vacuums once a week!! C'mon!! Even if you have a pet they only clean once a week! They have a so called housekeeperr that is never around. The shower fluctuates between too hot and too cold so it is hard to get a decent shower. They do not even have a laundry room on the premises! Along with only cleaning the room once a week, their guests have to take out their own garbage! What does the housekeeper do?!?! Terrible, dont stay here.
The Four Winds owner should be ashamed to even charge the prices that they do! We stayed there for a few weeks because they were cheap and I do mean CHEAP!(Remember that you get what you pay for!) I had to ask for sheets and towels when we needed them. I changed my own bed. They have a "housekeeper", what a joke! She is never there. The manager sent out a letter to his guests that the rooms would only be cleaned once a week!! Give me a break! They should be cleaned EVERY DAY! I almost had to argue with him to get clean sheets and towels one night. He told me that our sheets had been changed out twice that week already and could we not wait 2 more days til the day for the maid to clean the room!! OMG!!!! It is CHEAP but it is not even worth the cheap price!! Whatever you do dont stay there. It is NOT worth it!!! Please heed my warinings, it is NOT worth it!!!!! I dont know where the other guy is coming from with his great comments about the Four Winds, must be the manager posting.
Not one of the posh hotels in Durango, but it has appeal no others can compare to. It's nestled on a hillside on the edge of town. You can sit outside your room and drink a nightcap while the kiddos run around. They have a clean outdoor/covered hottub and the rooms are kept clean. We like it because it's really affordable yet you don't feel like you have to sacrifice cleanliness and good atmosphere & service for affordability (like some we've stayed in at Durango). Unfortunately, I think more people are finding out about it because it's usually booked when we call.
