Hawthorn Suites by Wyndham Alameda Oakland, Alameda

We stayed at the Hawthorn Inn on Webster in Alameda and it was a very nice hotel with a nice continental breakfast, a really wonderful Mexican Restaurant right across the street and really close to the coliseum. There were 6 of us, women all nearing age 50, taking our luggage to the elevator when it completely broke down. We were stuck on the 2nd floor with TONS of luggage and bags! We went down in the lobby and ask a very young and healthy looking employee named Kris if she could help us, or find someone to help us haul our luggage down the stairs and she flat-out refused. She said,”The hotel had no liability to help us because of a broken elevator.” We were appalled. However, two very polite male employees saved the day and without being asked helped us with our luggage, so we were happy in the end.

The room I live, with a king size bed, is extremely large, having a nice living room separated from the sleeping place. The breakfast is a typical american one, with food ranging from beacon, sausage, toast to milk and coffee. The only thing I would say not perfect about this hotel is perhaps the location being a little remote from downtown Oakland and San Francisco as well ( You need to take a cab of about $8 to go to the BART station and take a BART train heading for San Fran. )

The hotel accommodations were still very new-looking and comfortable. The breakfast in the morning was also more than your usual donuts and coffee, but scrambled eggs, bacon, muffins - the works! I also checked out their indoor spa, which was very relaxing after a long trip on the road. Also, if you live in the Bay Area, you appreciate a parking lot that's bigger than a driveway - this one had plenty of space and lighting. But if you don't want to drive, it's right on Webster Street, so you're a walk away from a cafe or a book store - very cozy. The free DSL is not that easy to connect to, but the staff was knowledgable and willing to help me, even late into the night. The only thing I would recommend is a better cleaning staff - I had to ask for new towels on the second night of my stay. The manager even recommended a mechanic down the street to help me fix my car. I will definitely stay here again.

This is an excellant hotel as the location is great, centrally located in town. Close to markets and shopping centers. Great parking, well lit. Staff was exceptional hospitable at all times. We will always stay here!
