Exceeded my expectations
By ,
Well, first of when you get to the hotel entrance your greeted by a little sitting area across the street. The doormen made you feel so welcome(besides the fact they get paid to greet) and at home. I loved every moment of it, the bartender teddy was great, waitress senait was great. It was close to all the sites. my greatest memory of the mandarin in washington is its home-like style.

be warned.......
By ,
I travel frequently to DC for either work or to visit my college daughter, and thought she would like some luxury. We have stayed at the Hay Adams before and it was perfect! Thought she might like this, but was I WRONG!. The place looks nice and is clean, but everything else is wrong, and for the competition, spend those dollars elsewhere. To begin, the room we were given was right next to the service elevator (for a 5 day stay), the mini bar was not working when we checked in, nor was the thermostat. After waiting for 2 hours for those fixes, I asked the concierge for a local shop referral. The store was going out of business, and a complete waste of time - granted he did call and they were open. Later that night, after a full day - our room keys did not work. The next morning, our room service bacon and eggs - $100.00, did not include the toast that should have come with them and the server had to return to the kitchen to get them. I then called the concierge for restaurant reservations, had to leave a message - which was never returned. When I spoke to him later - he told me that I didn't leave my room number - all phone systems in hotels that I've stayed in recently seem to have that option.... perhaps I'm wrong. Later that day, the maid called and angrily asked if she could clean our room. The hotel moved us to a new room, which ended up being noisier than the first - due to the maids slamming doors in the hallway from 2:30 pm till 4. The other inconvenience which has been mentioned is the location - there is a metro nearby - about 3 blocks, not that great a part of town (dept of Agriculture) but during our stay there were a few weddings and other large partied and if you happened to need one while they were loading and unloading, you were not going anywhere. For the money they charge, the service they advertise, the reputation they suggest they have, I'll stick with either the Hay Adams for excellent service at a price and location - or my low-cost suite hotels, where eggs and bacon are around $20, and I can count on standard service with relatively no disappointments.

Wonderful Experience
By ,
Everything about this hotel is absolutely perfect. I came to D.C. for a conference and stayed for a week in November. My experience turned out to be more pleasure than business. The rooms are huge and beautiful. The bathrooms are to die for All staff seemed genuinely happy, were very helpful and extremely polite. The food was the best I’ve ever had at any hotel. The spa left me speechless. I am planning a weekend getaway with my best friend and we are definitely staying here to relax and catch up....I can't wait!!!! The only negative experience I had was related to the secret service being everywhere and extremely rude. Other than that everything was perfect.

FIRST CLASS HOTEL
By ,
I have stayed in some of the finest hotels in the world and Mandarin was impeccable. From the minute you arrive when they give you the cold towels to wipe your to the excellent in room dining. Although it is a little isolated, it's near the Metro and the Potomac river is a stone's throw. We had an incredible view. I strongly recommend this hotel.

Far Short of First Class
By ,
First of all - get out your GPS when trying to find this place which is located on an elevated turnabout spec built to front the hotel. Secondly, dust off your wallet because while the room rate is acceptable (circa $300/night) for an upscale hotel - this rate includes absolutely nothing (internet is $15/day, parking is extra, etc.) and everything you want in your room costs a bundle (room service breakfast for two was $90 repeat $90). The curtains were stained, the couch was too, the bathroom was well appointed, but the rest of the room was boxy stale and uninspired in an office park kind of interior design. Not terribly impressive for the general reputation of this chain.

Nightmare of a stay
By ,
Pros: Nice decor, friendly staff. Cons: Gave us the wrong room, tv had terrible picture, room smelled bad, mistakenly charged us $4000 for a one night stay. This is just a quick sum up, I don't have the energy to write out every frustration this hotel gave me and my fiance. I would have had a better experience at a Motel 6...seriously.

I did not want to leave
By ,
The location of the hotel was great for sightseeing. I had a large room but the view was facing an area under construction. The food was excellent, there was a spa on the premises. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. The bathroom was huge! Larger than the average hotel room. Lots of marble, large glass enclosed shower with upgraded fixtures, separate whirlpool bath. Tastfully decorted...there was a keyboard and computer hook-up in my room through the televison. I was in heaven and I plan to return.

Try the Spa
By ,
Oh my.. this resort is beautiful and scenic. I went to the spa for full body treatments and relaxation. They know how to relax you there! I even had a steak and eggs breakfast while relaxing in the candle light relaxation suite! I enjoyed the huge jazcuzzi and the rainforest shower! Near the White House! Enjoy

It's a different experience for DC Hotels with a modern and classy feel. Service was great and location near the water offered a great view. Not so close to the attractions like the Willard but good enough and worth it. Love the variety of asian/traditional cuisine. Highly recommended!
