Inn at Harbor Hill Marina, Niantic

Went to the harbor hill inn for a long get away weekend. We are a young professional couple from NYC who travel often for business and needed a rest. After reading great reviews we felt that this would be the right fit and chose a room in the captain clark house. The room itself was lovely. The grounds were manicured and well kept and there could have been a warm and cozy feeling, but we did not get that. We saw many retired couples around us treated so well- catered to in fact and treated with the utmost care. I regret to say that we were treated as though we were two kids out past curfew on a high school trip. An essential piece of the bed and breakfast experience is the breakfast- yet each morning we were treated like intruders and made to feel as though our eating breakfast in the main dining room (as instructed and paid for) was a burden. "Oh you're eating here again?" was the greeting we received from the tattoo painted cook in sweatshorts and a wife beater top. The meals were basically a continental breakfast with a scrambled egg- way over priced for what you actually get and only served until 9am. Quite the rip off for a place that costs over $300 a night. Be careful-if you blink you might miss your meal! We were also shocked that our cleaning woman approached us while we were eating breakfast at 8am to ask if we were planning to go back to our room or if she could go in and clean. We said we had plans to relax for the morning, so at 10am she banged on the door to see if she could clean then. Maybe this is part of the "charm" to know your maid and have them pop in like mom did in the 9th grade? But we failed to see it as anything more than an unprofessional annoyance. The beach is nearby and offered as a feature of the inn- another reason we chose to stay. Unfortunately we were scolded for returning beach towels that "had sand" on them. The next day when we returned from the beach this same woman told we had used the beach chairs for longer than allowed. We were given a lecture that other guests wanted to enjoy the beach and we had the chairs so these guests couldn't enjoy their stay. What about our stay? Could we enjoy the beach that we came for? We rented and returned the chairs by 3:30pm so I did not think we had done anything too unruly. I was shocked and upset at the lack of respect from this tall curly haired bitter woman with glasses running the desk. We had done nothing in disrespect and had done nothing other than try to get away from our busy reality to have some quality couple time and enjoy the beach. For the price of over $300 a night we felt like we over paid (in advance might I add) for a pretty room with zero class. Not one of the older than 50 couples was talked to with the disrespect that we experienced, yet the last time I checked our money was still taken and just as good as that of the retirees. Overall I would call this place an overpriced disappointment with a continental breakfast. It could be great if hospitality was the focus for all patrons rather than just the over 50 crowd, but unfortunately we were not so lucky to be treated in kind. If it was just one person that was rude to us I might chalk it up to a bad personality, but three bad seeds in the bunch will spoil the whole crop and cause harbor hill to wash away before the next season.

Mark and I searched for the perfect inn for our family and friends to stay for our New London wedding. Our guests came from Connecticut, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. We wanted an inn that would cater to families and couples ranging in age from 2 to 73. It couldn't be too formal or too sporty. The Inn at Harbor Hill Marina was the perfect fit for a harbor side location. We were graciously welcomed upon arrival at the inn by the innkeepers and a precious golden retriever whom everyone loved. The lawn and gardens were beautiful in early October. From our 4th floor suite we could look out at the bay and see my husband's family cottage in the distance. It was more perfect than we had imagined. It's close proximity to the village was convenient to restaurants, shops and parks, giving everyone something to do. The ambience of the inn, the delicious breakfasts, and beautiful harbor view were superb. We recommend this beautiful inn for special getaways.

Great place to stay. My girlfriend loved the breakfasts, a walk on the beachwalk, restaurants, location. a lovely drink on the sidelawn. Great for going to the wineries, Mystic, Old Lyme, Casinos.Etc Great rooms.
