Doe Bay Resort & Retreat, Olga

I've seen Doe Bay through the years and through many lows- and am so happy to say that under the new ownership the resort has never looked or functioned better. This is not a fancy lodge, nor a place to be waited on hand and foot. It is camping, or glorified camping with a myriad of accomodations ranging from empty campsites, furnished yurts, waterless cabins and full kitchen and bath cabins. Located on a magnificient cove on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands this resort is built hugging the rugged coast with access to the state parks and hiking trails nearby. Kayaking from the beach during the high season, or just laying about in the outdoor spa area (with new and clean sauna and bathrooms)- you will have plenty or nothing at all to do as you prefer. If you're looking for a rugged escape, with adventure options and excellent local cuisine in the amazing restaurant than look no further than our little slice of Island Life here in the Northwest.

We had a little getaway to Orcas, with Doe Bay resort as the reason. We had heard about it and had to go. It was fun. Everything from Yerts to cabins. We chose a cabin to have our own bathroom... the restaurant was excellent, the view unbelievable. The clothing optional soaking tub area was great! We went several times a day. Yes the resort is a bit of unconventional, come call it a hippy place. I like to think of it as eclectic. Families, couples, campers, foodies, kayakers, there is something for everyone there. Will definitely go back. Probably not a good place if you're disabled or have trouble with walking. There will be a bit of walking for you, some trails to the different parts of the property, etc. We met some nice people there. Everyone seems friendly.

We just stayed for our second time in the winter. The first time we drove easily from Seattle, but now drive from Portland happily. Found the restaurant's food to be among the best I've ever had, the service and staff were incredibly friendly, and the views rival the rest of the islands. If you're looking for super-fancy, you might not be the best match. But if you're looking for nice rooms with incredible amenities (the tubs rival Breitenbush and Goldmeyer), then Doe Bay is the only space you need in the San Juans...
