Stony Ridge Resort, Ely

We have been vacationing at Stony Ridge Resort for years, and will continue to do so for many more. We missed last summer, due to the birth of our son, and we missed our time at Stony greatly. We were thrilled to return this summer, with our 19 month old son, to break him into our northwoods get away! We stayed in one of the cabins, which are rustic and have all needed amenities for our week long stay. We have stayed in many of the different cabins available over the years, including the RV camper for rent, and have enjoyed all of them. Keeping our son busy over our week stay was easy with the nearby trails to walk on, the beach which is literally a skip away, and the the boat docks--where he could throw stones in the lake for hours! We always save up a huge appetite and indulge in the Stony Ridge Cafe a few times over the week. You have to try them out for both breakfast AND for a lunch or dinner meal! The breakfast stuffed hashbrowns are so impeccably fantatsic, that you could easily fall in love! And the burger menu is so long, that you'll need to arrive early just so that you give yourself time to read over all the delicious choices--it's crazy how many there are to choose from! With all this said, I think the biggest reason for our continued return to Stony Ridge, is that we absolutely love the family feel from the owners Marty, Dawn & Don. The accomodations and hospitality from them are top notch. As busy as they are throughout the day, they still take time to chat with us, ask about the fishing and other activities occupying our vacation time. Unfortunately we are back from our 3rd year at Stoney Ridge Resort. Once again had the time of our lives and loved every minute. This resort is a wonderful family/fishing resort. Nature – Our first day there I saw 3 turkey vultures and a bald eagle. It didn’t stop there. I love taking pictures and between the animals, plants, and trees there are countless subjects. The view by the beach is breathtaking. The view from the camper was spectacular to, we looked into the woods. I would spend the mornings watching chipmunks and birds. Fishing – We don’t go to Stoney Ridge to fish, but there is great fishing on this lake. On our way out on a new adventure we noticed someone had caught a bass. This thing was so huge we backed the truck up to get a better look. Other campers were brining in fish left and right the whole time we were there. Across from the restaurant there is a bait shop. They have bait and some tackle and Don the best fishing guide you will find. In addition, and this will have to be checked out, I believe attached to the boat house is a screened in porch area to clean the fish. Kiddies – The campsite/cabins are close to the beach. There is one tent site located on a semi private beach. There is a park and a wonderful swimming area. The lake is clean, with a pure sand bottom. My “pool babies” love swimming in this lake and spent a great amount of time down there or at the park. There is walking access to 2 different islands allowing you opportunity to fish from shore or to just hike. In addition there are many attractions in town. There are canoes, motor boats and a pontoon that can be rented. The restaurant – The food is beyond description. We planned to eat more at the restaurant than previous years, and we did. I had been craving the club all year round, but right now I really could go for a Killer Brown stuffed hash brown!! There is no way to describe how delicious the food is and how great of a value you get. While we camping I heard someone comment on the price and while it may seem expensive you get a lot of food for your money. In most cases my husband and I would either share a meal or just not eat anything else the rest of the day. To give an example of the quality of food you receive I will describe the club. This is a 3 layer sandwich that you HAVE to pull apart in order to eat. Instead of ham lunch meat there is a thick slice of real ham on the sandwich and the bacon is thick cut. In addition to the pile of lettuce and tomato on the best bread I have ever tasted. There are 2 different contests at the restaurant, the first is the Sasquatch and the second one is new and I can’t remember what it was called but it was a normal hamburger with various hot peppers. I really want to see someone complete one of these challenges. “Tour Guide” - I swear Don knows every corner of every acre of the area. This year he sent us to a bear exhibit and to a local waterfall. We LOVED them both, especially the waterfall, and told everyone we met about each one. There were a few other spots he had suggested, but we just straight ran out of time. We will hit them for sure next year! But the real reason we go back? Marty, Dawn and Don. These are the hardest working most wonderful people in the world. They bring you in like you are a long lost family member visiting. They greet you by name every morning and will sit and shoot the breeze. They are the greatest people in the world and I will miss them horribly for another year.

this was my second time going up there and marty, his wife and the girls in the restaurant made my stay very pleasant. food was awesome and I absolutely love my campsite, I mean the water is just 12 to 15 ft away from my tent door. Line was in the water evry time I was at my site. It will be my sleeping destination every year I go up to Ely.

I have been coming up for several years, and as a seasonal business owner, you value your free time. This is the place I find myself daydreaming about from May 1 thru October. The food, the fishing, the cabins and maybe the best of all, the VIEW. Looking out across the lake from the cafe makes me want to stay forever every time I visit. Marty, Dawn and Don; you are all like family. Thank you and God bless you all!

These were the best burgers we have ever had and to top it off it was my brothers 40th birthday and even though Stoney Ridge was closed for the season they opened their restaurant to only us so my brother could have one of their burgers. They never rushed us and let us take our time and enjoy their restaurant all to ourselves.

This is our second trip up there for the 4th. Marty, Don, and Dawn are the nicest people I have met. The food has to be the best food ever. Dont let the prices fool yah, you get what you pay for, so bring an appetite. They are always giving us advice on where to go in the Ely area. Next year we plan on bringing less food and eating at the Cafe more, and spending more time up there. Jeremy

,Marty and his staff will do anything to make your stay enjoyable and memorable. I can't wait to go back. The locals we talked to said he had the best food in town. No lie, it is simply awesome. The fishing cabin with a boat and motor is too much. Don't be unrealistic, it is not the Taj Mahal and has no pool or hot tub. But a comfortable fishing cabin with a view. Very, very enjoyable and relaxing!!!

Marty, Dawn, Don and Josh and the rest of the great people at Stony Ridge Resort made us feel right at home just like family. The food and service was second to none. The area surrounding the resort is beautiful. There is a real nice beach near by the resort and the town is also close. Our family cannot wait to go back again next year. We just want to say thanks again for a great vacation.

Marty, Dawn and the entire staff are an example of hospitality and customer service. We stayed at Stony Ridge for 5 days and 4 nights and had a great time. Anything you wanted, needed or requested, the Stony Ridge staff took care of it without blinking an eye. Thank You! The food at the Stony Ridge Cafe is out of this world. If you think you have eaten a good burger, think again unless you had one of Marty's creations! The burgers, the home made chips, the breakfast.... Excellent! Are we coming back?
