Built as a single family residence, Thornewood is now a gracious country inn that has been lovingly restored. Stephen Kings Rose Red mini series was filmed here, as well as the move Dairy of Ellen Rimbauer, My Life at Rose Red. We have lots of interesting stuff about the movies. Presidents William Howard Taft and Theodore Roosevelt spent the night in our presidential suite. Roam the grounds and lovely 1/2 acre sunken English perennial garden, swim, fish, or boat on the beautiful American Lake. Medieval stained glass window insets adorn the manor as well as antique furniture and paintings. Whatever your choices, your stay with us will be a special memory.

don't change dates
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/04/08
be really careful if you book this place.  if you change your dates they charge you $50.  if you cancel one night they charge you $50.  They charged us full price for two nights before we even got there, then charged for changing dates.  Be very careful.  We didn't even go and we were charged $150.

Amazing place filled with art.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/04/08
This place is the epitome of a grand old Manor House. Beautifully restored, impeccably clean. Gorgeous statues, paintings, and crystal everywhere. I can certainly understand the policies about keeping it to registered guests. I was in awe. I called a friend at 8 in the morning while I was there just to say "guess where I am?", just like a little kid, it was so beautiful. The hostess was gracious and generous about showing us a couple of the unoccupied rooms. The breakfast was delicious and artfully presented. I would like to return when I have time to stay to stay longer.

They were rude, and made our stay very uncomfortable, I would never recommend this place even to my worse enemy. The food was horrible also

Don't do the murder mystery
By jason, 04/11/07
We planned my 30th b-day party here and was very disappointed! We paid $1300 for a night of confusion, bad food, and horrible, rude service! They didn't tell us anything about the castle, and treated my guests like criminals. They act like it's the Vatican or something and no one was allowed to go anywhere but one room. We paid all that money, was handed a costume and a script, and were expected to act out a play for them to sit back and watch Very unorgainzed and we will never go back
