The place is very laid back. It is like you stepped back in time 10 years. Monday and Tuesday there are organized activities (softball and horseshoes) and the rest of the week was at your own pace. Really enjoyed the open air, weather, and atmosphere. My kids loved the ability to run loose with little or no concern about their safety. Other guests were friendly and sociable. I will be back every year that we can make it happen. The hosts, Doug and Rita are very friendly and willing to do all that they can to make your week(s) a memorable one. The $1 ice cream cone each night was a huge hit with my daughters. The cabins are very rustic, but adequate. The price is unbeatable, especially if you spend a large amount of time on the water or in the woods. Good food (Northernaire) is within walking distance and Minocqua and Park Falls are about 20 miles away for more dining options. I am counting down already to next year!
Our family of 4 (including our dog Bert) stayed in a 2 bedroom. The cabin was very basic, clean and had all the amenities we needed. The beds were comfortable. The owner Doug and his family for very kind and helpful. There is nothing fancy about the cabin but the area and it's location and price makes up for that. If you truly want to get away from it all and don't want to stay in an overly crowded, commercialized establishment this is your place. Even in early June the water was a great temperature for swimming! We would return!
We have stayed there the last 3 september`s for long weekends, and it has been great. Right down the stairs to our boat and great fishing on 4 lakes.
My son and I have been fishing Muskies for years and Idle Hour is perfect for our needs.
