Dinner was a disaster

We had dinner at the Sirloin & Saddle Restaurant at the Inn at StoneCliffe on Saturday night, July 19, 2008, with a reservation at 8:15. The principal problem was understaffing. They had two waiters handling all of the tables, taking orders, clearing, serving food, etc. Other tables were complaining. A guest at one table finally walked out, although his companions remained. We just did a slow burn. Management knew they were in over their heads. We were offered mild apologies, politely accepted, and a free glass of wine or free desserts, politely declined. Ultimately our tab was voluntarily discounted 20 percent. The whole meal should have been comped. Foodwise, my wife said her filet mignon was very good, while my bone-in ribeye was way overdone and more like saddle than sirloin. The wine list is brief, mostly mediocre and overpriced. The restaurant manager actually served our wine, amateurishly. I could go on, but why bother. For the money, this was the worst restaurant experience I've had in my 66 years. On the plus side the location, although about a 45 min. cab ride (horse-drawn) from the downtown harbor area, is very nice and the Inn and dining room themselves are attactive.
