we have been to elk lake resort many times both in the summer and winter but never again. we had several bad experiences last summer with loud drunks (management and staff were always included) loud music, no control. The bathrooms were unusable and the cabins were not very clean. But we decided to give them another try this winter, so we planned a mid week snowmobile trip into the resort. we called to make sure they were open and serving lunch and were told yes. So off we go, we get there at about 2:00 and walk in to an empty lodge it was unlocked so we thought they had to get some thing. So we waited and waited and waited, we were just about ready to leave when low and behold a real live person came in the door. we aske if they worked there and they said ya. so we asked if we could get some coffee and some lunch. he said no. I said but we called and was told you were open and serving food. Oh he said well everyone was up late last night getting drunk so we all went back to bed I just came in for something to drink. we could not beleive what we were being told. we will never go back to elk lake resort summer or winter. Some one needs to clue them in that there are a lot of really nice well run resorts in the area. Do your self a favor don't waste your time or gas on this place
When I go back I will not be staying at the resort. The resort would be better enjoyed if we stayed near by, and only went there when needed. (of course this is my summer experience, it might be different in the winter). For $20 per night for a campsite, the bathrooms should be usable! They were unhealthy & toxic to humans. Mangagement was rude and unaccomodating. It is true what other reviews say...... Get drunk and you'll have more fun! It is a party resort. I really think this should be made clear on their website. Disappointing!
Every year my family and I have our annual camping trip. This year we decided to go to Elk Lake Resort. We were kept up all night with loud music and drunk people yelling. We went over to the site 3 times to ask them to be quiet- which worked for about 10 minutes, and then went right back to yelling. The next morning we complained to the owner, who proceeded to tell us he was there partying with them. He said we shouldn't have camped here if we wanted a peaceful camping experience. I can't believe he was there the whole night partying, heard us go over there and complain 3 times, and did nothing about it. I feel that is not a way to treat your paying customers. I will also agree the "toilets" were terrible. We even put a scented candle in it, and it made no difference. It was so bad I felt dizzy every time I went to the bathroom. This is obviously somewhere you want to go if you want to party and drink. I wish they would have told us ahead of time...and please, please, please, by all means, treat your guests better!
We must have stayed there the same weekend as the previous review because we were kept up late both nights as well – no wonder the phone wasn’t answered when we called to complain…the staff was too busy parting it up!. We rented a rustic cabin and while pleased with the quaint little cabin that was surprisingly roomy (but beware! Bring your own portable lantern as ours had dead batteries) - we also were disgusted by the restrooms. They were so bad that we were sickened each time we needed to use them.
We felt a like we were maybe being taken advantage of because we needed to buy firewood and the GM told us 10.00 per bundle. We paid for 2 bundles but when we went in the back to grab our wood, 4 different people, including Tony, the FBM, told us the wood was only 5.00 per bundle. Tony was great and apologized on behalf of the GM and told us to take 4 armfuls (and acted as if he wasn’t surprised by the actions of the GM). The next day, we enjoyed the lake by renting a motor boat (sadly no fish ) and later enjoyed a cute little concert by Anastasia. The scenery is breathtaking…just stay away from the restrooms! We’ve camped many places and have never witnessed anything like these things before…there is no need for them to reek as badly as they do. It’s obvious they don’t want to spring for the $$ to have them cleaned as often as needed to keep campers happy and the stench down.
Also, worth mentioning is the fact that you will defiantly want to bring your own sheets for the beds and DO NOT use their linens as they are nasty filthy….our bedding had holes, feathers (???) and lots of other peoples hair (GROSS!!!) all in them. They were so gross. Also, the website states all new beds…but the rustic cabins have the WORST most uncomfortable beds ever…I would much prefer sleeping on the ground than those ever again. I seriously hope they will upgrade the beds in the rustic cabins as well. This would be a fabulous place if management would respect their own 10pm quiet time and request anyone who is being excessively loud tone it down a bit and NOT party until 2 or 3 am with campers, if they would fix their bedding issue (better to not provide it if you can’t clean it first), and PLEASE PLEASE fix the restrooms!!!
The views are world class...however, the nasty smell from the uncleaned outhouses ruined it for us. It's pretty bad when you go to use the bathroom and gag 3 times before even using the thing! They obviously never clean the things! We rented a rustic cabin and it was great - in fact it was all pretty good, except for the restrooms...and the fact that the managment themselves do not respect the 10pm quite time. Both nights we stayed there was loud partying until the wee hours of the morning...the second night - the GM himself was at a campsite all night long partying it up with loud whooping and hollaring and loud music. It's too bad that this place families go to have a great outdoor experience have it ruined by the people who run the place...Get a clue people!
Although a beautiful setting, the loud music blasting from the lodge until 2 or 3 am on weekends along with gaggles of loud uncontrolled drunks was not worth it. Peaceful does not describe this experience
We had a Blast, The place is in the wilderness, weirdo’s stay home. We snowmobiled and skied Mt. Bachelor, I laughed so hard and had so much fun I can’t wait to go back. The lodge is a kick, with an excellent staff who took great care of us. The accommodations were superb, I give you an A+ for full unadulterated FUN!
Staff was helpful in setting up our snowmobile rental last spring break. They provided a map and advise, then toured groomed trails through scenic areas by ouselves. We had to try this winter outing, it seemed like another world compared to typical summer outings. Riding on the Snow-Cat was a unique experience also. Overall, a rugged adventure, but retreat back to the cabins or main lodge for a nice dinner, makes it all good!
Nothing like going to a place where you can't drive to. Snow was above the six foot level. For the value you get and the amount of work the staff puts in to keep it a value it's a true Oregonians 5 star resort.
The resort at Elk Lake is the Best! We had friends tell us about it, so some of us x-c skied in 11 miles, others rode the snowcat, and it was unbelievable! Definately a laid back peaceful environment, great mix of rustic to well appointed. The staff made you feel like old friends, the scenery is world class, I'm glad we didn't let the bad reviews sway us away. The new chef can whip up the most tantelizing meals in an old rustic 1920's lodge that has charm thru and thru. This is Oregons best kept secret.
