Elk Lake Resort, Bend

Some of the other reviews are very difficult to understand. We stayed at the resort for 3 days (cabin 18) and had the most wonderful time. Management and staff couldnt have been any better. They obviously love their jobs. The cabin was old but completely restored. It was so cute. The resort has beautiful surroundings. The bands that played on Saturday was outstanding. My family was treated as if we owned the place. We will be back I promise

Rented a rustic cabin for an overnight. We called for 2 days before we actually got a hold of someone to ask questions and to book. When we did get a hold of someone, they would not help us with booking over the phone and made us do it over the web site. Cabin was nice and clean but the lights did not work and the staff was not willing to address this. Restroom had no TP. We went for dinner at the lodge only to be informed they would not serve us. After begging they agreed to serve us. 15 minutes later they actually took the time to bus one of the 5 empty tables. We got some pasta thing (they said they only had 1 menu item) that was very expensive. The tip was small because the service was very poor. The server actually had the guts to rudely ask a lady in our party why her tip was so small. The next AM we went back to the lodge for Brunch. At 10:30 they were still not ready for the 10 am brunch. Must be because most of the staff looked pretty drunk by 9 pm the night before. Cool place we visit often. They must have a "cool kid" short list that we do not meet. I have given them plenty of my $ over the years and I am certainly done with that.

We started out by taking a beautiful Snowcat ride 10 miles into the resort. It was decorated for Christmas and was truely gourgeous. The staff met us and took our luggage to our cabin. The heat was already turned on and the place was great. We ate dinner family style at the lodge the first night and was treated like family by the staff. The next day we cooked most meals in the cabin but had amazing Elk Burgers at the lodge. Our cabin was clean and well appointed and the food and the lodge was amazing. We couldn't beleive we could get food like that in the middle of the wilderness. We rented 2 snowmobiles one day and went snowshoeing the next. We had a great adventure. I have read some of the negative reviews and absolutely do not believe them. The place is clean, kept up very well since a lot was built in the 30's and the staff were attentive and accomodating. We have already booked for next year.

We just came back from an incredible event at Elk Lake Resort in the beautiful Cascade Mountains out side of Bend Oregon. We have never been treated better. We took a wonderful snowburban ride into the resort and then spent the day renting snowmobiles from the resort. The snow wasnt deep but definately fun to us novices. The part that blew us away was the service. A snowbound resort with that get it done attitude. The owner (Mitch) and his great staff overwhelmed us with culinary delights and quite possibly the best Bloody Mary ive ever had. The cabin we stayed in was amazing (#22) absolutely great with new furniture and super comfortable beds. We nordic skied the next day and found a great place for a winter picnic. The staff even packed us a to go lunch that was great even though it was enjoyed over at Hosmer Lake. We have already booked again!!!! You wont have a better family vacation!!

Well we have found it!!!! A little slice of Paradise. We stayed for four amazing nights at Elk Lake Resort and it was the best vacation in 15 years. There were a few things off with our cabin when we arrived but the manager jumped right on it and it was handled within minutes. The cabin (#19) was great. An old log cabin but the resort has updated the interior with newer furniyure and beds. We rented every type of boat imaginable and had a great time watching the music on Saturday night. The ribs were off the chart and the staff while very busy stayed very late to accomodate our event. Thanks Elk Lake you guys made our 15th Anniversary the Best Ever!!!!!

We visited Elk Lake Resort in August and were so surprised at what we had found. The staff could not have been any nicer and the facility was amazing. We stayed for 6 nights and enjoyed both the cabins and the campgrounds. After our first three nights we did not want to leave so we ended up renting a cabin for the last 3 nights. Our cabin was beautiful. This resort is in the mountains so nature was the true draw and wow what a lake. The bartender at the lodge ( I think Mitch) was so helpful and poured a great margarita. The marina had every kind of boat we needed. We rented kayaks and paddleboards and even took out one of their pontoon boats for the afternoon. The pit toilets in the campground were clean but fairly smelly, not sure what can be done but we were outdoors. We have already booked next year and will definately come back in the winter for snowmobiling and snowshoeing. The pictures of the winter activities looked awesome. The suburbans with snow tracks look like they would be really fun. I was told the owners are looking at rebuilding the kitchen but the place is great just the way it is. Rented a rustic cabin. At $58/night we did have some minimum expectations. The cabin is a one room deal requiring a family of four to coordinate clothing changes. We were treated to a vault toilette that stunk to high heaven and, on the ladies side, had a feces encrusted seat. Checking in on Friday afternoon, toilettes had not been serviced and were out of TP. When spoke to the young men attending the counter, there was an argument about who was going to get stuck with the disgusting job. By the end of the weekend, we enjoyed the aroma of the facilities right at the front door of our cabin. Want a shower? $5. Mattress in the cabin was horrible - worst night's sleep my husband and I have had in a long, long time. No biking or hiking trails. Teen kids were bored. $3, 7# bag of ice was really more like 5#s. Only redeeming qualities were a very nice fire ring at every camp/cabin site and chips on the roadways to keep dust down. This lake is best suited for those who are going to be spending their time in a boat or at the bar, and are renting one of the expensive cabins. Otherwise, it's a pass. Our family will not ever return.

I read with disbelief the negative reviews from 2011 and must conclude that these folks have an axe to grind. I think it's a group who wanted stuff for free and didn't get them. The owners spent a lot of money this year for new beds for the cabins and the restrooms are fine. We just spent a weekend there and had the BEST sandwich EVER, and we're in our sixties! It was called "The Reubenator", and had not only corned beef, but their own special bacon and melted swiss cheese and mustard sauce. And French fried sweet potatoes to die for! We ate at the bar with a world-class view of the crisp blue lake with Mt. Bachelor in the background; Central Oregon at its best! They got an award a few years ago for Best Local Getaway (or something like that). It is a jewel, and not far from Bend.

Service at the lodge was slow and pathetic. The water glasses we got were all dirty and I don't mean finger prints or lipstick, they all had actual dirt and traces of mud on them. We waited almost an hour for 4 hamburgers, 2 of which they got wrong, that needed some help in the flavor dept. 24hrs later all 4 of us had food poisoning. Horrible experience all the way around. STAY AWAY.

Great place! My Gf and I called in to see if the resort was open and they weren't. I explained that it was our one year anniversary and that we loved Elk Lake and he could help us out. He even drove down to the gate and unlocked it for us ( the rode to the lodge wasnt open yet), gave us a ride to our cabin with our bags on a snomobile ( road were not all cleared of snow) then made us dinner, best curry I have ever had!!! It was our first time there and all together a great experience!! Highly recomended!
