Like several others posted I have been coming here since I was a young child. Maybe its the memories but I absolutely love this place. Especially the peninsula sites which are quite unique. Other campers are always courteous, staff is always courteous, and have never in 20 years had a problem with them. I don't think you can find a better deal when it comes to price especially these days. Plenty of activities for the whole family as mentioned by others swimming area, game room, food stand, fishing, and plenty of hiking near by. I would highly recommend this campground its one of the only places we return to year after year. Thanks Hoefts for all the memories and we will continue to add to them!!
My parents had a seasonal camper, which created alot of fun memories. Some of the seasonal sites are nice, but many are to close to each other now for my liking. The campsites on the beach side are not my preference either cuz i like a little privacy. BUT !!!!!!! I love the lakeside campsites on the peninsula. They arent real big but big enough, but are nice being on the lakefront and there is some wood between the sites. It's beautiful, quiet and relaxing there. Each site also has electric and water there. The cabins also are very nice to rent and reasonal and very well kept and clean. There is a nice beach and swim area, pool hall, camp store, kids playground, and a concession stand with very good food. The owners (and workers) are very nice people. The campground and bathrooms/showers are always kept up and very clean. There is also 2 washers/dryers (coin operated) in case you need that. I have been going to Hoeft's since I was about 14 and now am 54. I took my kids there, and now take my grandkids there. We always have a great time and will always go back.
This was an awful place to camp. The owner is really cranky and mean - not at ALL customer friendly. They are geared more towards the year-round guests. The rest of us weekend campers are all just a bunch of losers according to the owner of this place. Our family will NEVER go back here. The owner even had the nerve to blame my 8 year-old for plugging a toilet. Hello?!!! We have a bathroom in our big camper! WE DIDN'T even use their toilets. My 8 year old was in tears because the 'man from the campground' yelled at her for using too much toilet paper. Jerk. My daughter was nowhere near his toilets. He's lucky my husband wasn't around at the time. Aside from that whole thing, the place isn't anything special. The lake sites are really gross and all it does is produce millions of mosquitoes. The sites are small and overpriced. And again...the owner is an immature jerk.
Hoeft's is a great campground. We return every year. They have a good variety of camp sites whether you are tent camping or have an RV. There are even cabins and RVs to rent. You can camp on the lake or in a secluded part of the woods. The people are always friendly, both the owners/workers and the other guests. We always make new friends. It is great for families. Kids enjoy the arcade, the beach and raft, and the playground. You can purchase breakfast, lunch and dinner from the walk up window, with outdoor seating. There is a bar with TVs and a pool table and a sometimes serve-yourself Jeager dispenser (if you are really nice to the bartenders). Our family highly recommends Hoeft's Resort.
